Hi All,

I am going to Tokyo for a week at the end of the month and wondered if anyone by chance happened to know where I could find any model shops? appreciate any help, thanks

I have never been there, but, here is a link to the Mandarake shops.

If you google Akihabara, which seems to be the centre for pop culture, anime, manga, hobby shops/models, electronics goods, etc., then you may find some places, to visit also.

After you have been, please let us know, as my wife and I are planning a visit next year.

One thing to consider when you go to Japan is that it's a cash-based society. Outside of the areas that usually cater to foreign tourists, most places don't accept credit cards or traveler's checks, just cash. A friend of mine, an American who lives and works there, told me that he routinely carries the equivalent of $1,000 cash on him most of the time, something that is fairly common. Also, according to my friend, many of the ATMs over there aren't available for service 24/7, although a small number are. Keep all that in mind when you go shopping.

Have a good time.

Unfortunately not many small or individual hobby shops left as most closed down or went to online sales only.

Nakano Broadway(Mandarake) is a must visit, akiba(akihabara) has mostly only chain-stores left, tachikawa also has a few good shops. Many shops in akiba moved so you will need to search their new locations.

Yodobashi is good for plastic-models and supplies, many stores but akihabara is a pain.

In kanda(close to Tokyo station) you got Maestro which is worth a visit and speak to the owner(sculptor, pro-modeler).

End of the month is bad for me (family commitments), otherwise I would buy you a pint or two.
