Very impressive work, especially the lower jaw! I really love the SS firm, such a great medium. Looking forward to the finished kit, I think your modifications are a dynamic improvement. The open mouth and the slight turn of the head will give it SO much more life.

Sorry guys...thought I would have some time to get back to this, but haven't had a chance yet.
I actually figured this would be the case so I sculpted the head a tiny bit larger to account for resin shrinkage.
I will post updates of molding and casting in this thread after my sculpting is done.
Thank you!!
Joe
Thank you!! I most likely will be casting the head when I'm finished, as it is pretty heavy...probably too heavy for this vinyl kit.... even though I bulked it out with foil first.Foo fighter wrote:Wow! Your mods to this kit are fantastic! I am looking at my kit and thinking of redoing everything thanks to your inspiring work. Is there any way you would consider casting the head? It's an amazing piece of work and would bring new life to my previously feeble attempts.

Thank you!! I'm dying to get back to it, hopefully I will have some time this weekend.AaronBackwoods wrote:Very impressive work, especially the lower jaw! Finally! Getting back to this.
A small bit of progress since my last pic...so long ago.
Cleaning up a bit and adding more anatomy. Will try to have this side done in the next few days. The other side should go quite a bit faster, as I'll just need to reproduce what I've already done on this side. Then I'll try to tie it all in to the neck on the kit.
Which will be a project on its own! Lol

Yeah, like Richard said! But do not wait as long as now for the next stage on this fantastic sculpt. So I sit here eagerly waiting for your new ideas. Top work as usual here!

That's a really cool conversion. A suggestion would be to slim the teeth a little, make them smaller, as that was one of the key feature differences between the Alien3 alien and all the others - that it had very human-like teeth and much smaller than what we saw before and after.

That is a great suggestion, but wish I would of heard it earlier...that part of the sculpture has already been baked and hardened.
Oh well, he is a baby Xeno after all, maybe he has to grow into his teeth

Re: Halcyon Dog Burster Head Re-sculpt WIP small update 6/15
I guess it would be safe to say that the accuracy of the alien sculpt would be compromised if the creature wore braces on its "teeth". A slightly "human" quality to the mandibles adds a creepy element to the creature in my opinion.

Re: Halcyon Dog Burster Head Re-sculpt WIP small update 6/15
The pros and cons of the accuracy concerning Aliens...
! I have sculptet lots of Aliens, from 1:6 to 1:16 and 1:32 and I think none of them is like its pedant on the screen, I consider to add more own ideas of design in it, but you always encounter them as Aliens. The same did Takeya with his own versions. I think, it is the look of the Beast that counts. I personally love the human theeth here a lot, they enhance, in my eyes, the feeling of creepyness and are very "alienesque". When we look at the military modeling, we see Nitpickers galore (Hey, your Tank looks fine, but aren´t there two more bolts in this area here?). Being a Sculptor of Moviedesign stuff I like to have the freedom to alter designs to my own fun or when I think, that could look better the way I have done it (may sound a bit strange, but to have this freedom allows me to go a bit over the top). But it would be interesting to know what other sculptors think about that question.

I have to agree with you Frank. I have a large collection of hard to find alien statues etc. and most are uniquely different in their own way. However, I do respect the position of those alien enthusiasts who appreciate accuracy etc.

Sure Foo, you are right of cause
! I always love to see an "anatomically correct" Alien from time to time, and there are tons of cool kit available!
