So, what did you get, and how did you do in the contest?

#1 Post by tay666 »

Both subjects are usually threads on their own each year. But since traffic seems down a bit, might as well combine them.

I am happy with my contest results. I went 3 for 9.
Getting merits for my Jack-O-Lantern, and Lil' Pumpkinhead
and a bronze for my Godzilla vs Mothra super tiny terror.

Actually, I was surprised that the J-O-L got anything, though, I thought my Franken-Frog would merit, so it was a wash. I knew the others probably wouldn't place, but I had fun making them and wanted to show them off.

As far as what I bought.
Not a lot this year.

Got a cool Cthulhu bust
One of the small Pilots from TZY
The Critters kit from Paul
A cool little Mike Parks base
The Moebius Penguin and the conversion set to turn it into the monster from Young Frankenstein
And my luckiest score was the old Warp kit of the Babylon 5 Shadow Ship that I found on the Hodge Hobbies table.
And a few tools.

I bought a Death Dealer, Skyhook Penguin conversion for YF, Atlantis Vic Torry Saucer and Luna Spaceship plus the MOM base to display it on, a set of figures, lighting kit and mask set for the Proteus, Vampirella and Black Sunday Busts, and 4 Sci-Fi & Fantasy books. I didn't get anything done to enter in the contest (always next year!)

What is this penguin conversion I've seen mentioned here? Is it from skyhook models? I don't see it on their website. Very curious about this. :-k

I picked up:
- a life size "Mars Attacks" wall hanger bust from Jimmy Flintstone
- "B. A. R. Girl" from Robb
- "Rachel (Sean Young)" from Robb
- a cool smaller "Cthulhu" bust from I'm not sure who
- "Glenda" from Jesse
- another smaller "Mars Attacks" bust from an unknown vender
- a bunch of paint from Jesse
- a couple styrene kits from Brandon Lowe
Contest wise, my Mike Baldwin Wolverine (last years WF purchase from Brandon) took a Bronze, my "General Zodd got a Silver, Filmy's girls Nefertiti got a Bronze, and my "Escape from Skull Island" got a Silver and also was awarded "Best Babe".
I was quite thrilled.
(Oh...I also got the recipe for "Panther Potion" from Crazy Joe...)

Man - that weird resin on the WARP kit  - it's like that on the bases of their Starship Troopers kits - almost like the resin is mixed with dirt.

Never seen anyone else cast with that stuff.

The texture is likely perfect for the Shadow ship (as it is for the S.T. bases).

Yeah.
And it is extremely brittle too.
I know because I broke off a lot of the big flash just sitting on the bed in my hotel room while waiting for my pizza to show up.

It's gonna be a fun build, but a nightmare to transport.

I have yet to bring anything to their contest. Haven't gotten to finish a kit in way too long.

Besides renewing my subscription to AFM I managed to buy nothing at Wonderfest sadly. I had a great weekend in Louisville with many friends I rarely get to see anymore.

I also was gifted a 1/4 scale bust of the Creature from my good friend John Diaz on the ride home when we showed up in the Bronx on the way home dropping off his builtups and some kits we had room for.

Looking forward to next year already. Hopefully i will actually be able to finish a kit to bring to the show.
