Re: Estate Auction of John Petik
Sad news. My condolences to his family. I will miss Raydrz, one of my old-time member friends. Used to have discussions with him all the time when I had time to be more active in the Hobby than I have been the past few years. He will indeed be missed!

See my 2nd post for a explanation of how the site works. the one with the quote from pun13.starmanmm wrote:related to the auction site... couldn't find the answer to this question there: what do they mean by Internet Premium 18% ? Is this a tax of some kind?
Basically yes 18% added after sale! .

Out of curiosity - how old was John when he died ?
The sheer number of kits in his possession at the time of his passing is unbelievable and he certainly had a wide range of subjects. Plus, I am even more impressed at the number of completed kits !!! He was a heck of a modeler !

As most of you know, our brother in the GK hobby and co-moderator John Petik unexpectedly passed away just before Thanksgiving Day last year.
For those of you who are new here, he was a staple of this hobby. Supportive and encouraging. He genuinely loved being part of it and supported it
every way he could.
We miss you John and hope you know we always will.
His family set up an auction featuring many of his kits -- built and unbuilt -- to be offered to people who were like minded and would appreciate and opportunity to own them.
Please note that The Clubhouse does not benefit in anyway from this sale. I'm just posting this here as a courtesy to his memory and at the request of his friends and family.

He was a great guy, very nice, very cool.......I will miss him
Thank You for everything John!
Rest east my friend.

Re: Estate Auction of John Petik
John had a lot of great kits for sure, and as I look through this auction, I keep spotting a kit now and then that I sold him, or see a kit that I remember him being really excited about getting. Still tough to believe he's gone.

Re: Estate Auction of John Petik
Do they charge you for each auction,or wait till all auctions end and charge only once for a total on multiple auctions?
Thanks,Anthony

Re: Estate Auction of John Petik
Well, this was part of the instructions (lot #1c)
"Your invoice will be sent within 1 hour of the close of the auction please make sure your credit card on file is good before you start bidding. Your credit card on file will be charged at noon on Monday June 19th. After payment is made for your items will package your items and a 2nd invoice will be sent to you with your shipping charges. We will charge your card a 2nd time for the shipping charges. "
So, I think they combine them?

They do not work after noon on Saturdays and are closed Sundays.kitator wrote:Thanks Trevor.I saw that just now.Still have other questions but no one answering the phone yet.
As regards combining for charging and shipping - email them direct - they are very quick to respond during their business hours.

Re: Estate Auction of John Petik
I did notice that it looks like the shipping charges are VERY high. I didn't check before I bid, won an auction for a Godzilla kit, and the cheapest shipping comes to around $104 on the shipping calculator, which is about 3 times what the same package would be by priority mail.

Also, just a heads-up. There is no sense trying to snipe, as they extend the auction time when there are bids placed close to the closing.

Don't rely on their shipping calculator - contact them via email and ask for all available options.zibbazabba wrote:I did notice that it looks like the shipping charges are VERY high. They seem to prefer to ship via UPS - but I've arranged to use USPS for shipments to Canada.

Re: Estate Auction of John Petik
Yeah - by 1 to 1.5 mins. They put that in the FAQ/guide - the idea is that they want the auction to be won by the buyer that is willing to bid MOST - not lose due to sniping.tay666 wrote:Also, just a heads-up. Seems fairer - even if it will cost me money
(* besides - this is going to John's family so no way do I begrudge any extra incurred *)

Basically, it's just like a live auction (which is something they also do).
As long as people are bidding the auction continues.

Re: Estate Auction of John Petik
Missed one auction since it was a pickup only. That's why I wanted to call them. In the bidding instructions it had a dead line for pickups. If not picked up,the kits would be shipped so I was wondering if that was for locals that had already sgreed to pick up or if it could also mean I could bid on a pickup only and they HAD to ship it to me.Ended up not bidding on that one. Was able to bid on 19 other ones and they have a new home here on my shelves.Had already bought from John in the past ,and we had similar taste in kits,so these will fit right in.
Payday not lining up.with this auction or I would have went for more. There were so many good ones and plus these will be sentimental pieces.Hope CH members picked up the rest.

I just spoke with them to make sure USPS would be used.
Since I live in Canada USPS is the more reasonable shipping option.
Was glad to get two of John's kits.
