I've been lucky there. No peanuts so far.
Just kits wrapped in bubble wrap, nested in paper.

They probably have a team of 12+ people wrapping these.

Just pot-luck if you get someone with a sufficient level of common-sense / consideration / care.

Well - that final auction turned out OK for me (and for Trev by the looks of it  :) )

I'd had 11 lots shortlisted, but REALLY wanted 4 of them.

Out of those 4, 1 looked like it was getting silly so I backed off, and directed funds to the other 3.

Got them all - much to the relief of both my Son and I :D

Thank-you John - they WILL be treasured my Brother :thumb2:  :jam:

Yeah. I was watching 15 auction, but had my heart set on 3 of them.
I got all 3 I really wanted, plus 2 others.
I got 3 of John's painted Maiden kits, and a couple others unpainted.
As well as the built Munsters houses.

As I mentioned before, I've emailed the auction house multiple times to request combining items for shipping, and was surprised to get the 2 items from Auction 2 shipped without anything else, in a box 4 times the size it needed to be.

I tried phoning them throughout today, left 2 voicemails that were not answered, but finally got hold of a lovely lady called "Amanda" a few minutes ago.

She apologised for the screw-up, said they had (since then) left notes on my items, and confirmed they will:
  • • Combine stuff where possible.
    • Email me next week with their solution.
    • Wait for my emailed confirmation before shipping anything.
So - I'm feeling a bit more confident about this now - even if it DOES come in pricey still.

I was also singing John's praises to her - that he was a genuinely wonderful human-being. Amanda said she had got the impression from MANY people that he was loved and missed.

That would be me Kitator.

I picked up the two Megadeath pieces 10 maiden kits the Alice Cooper & Rob Zombie built kits too.
And two lots that went for 1.00 and 5.00.

!6 kits total from the last auction.
No one really bid on the kits I won.
That made 18 total kits and 5 books from the auctions participated in.

I skipped all the maiden shirts, banners, & toys and guitars. I already have more then I know what to do with and I'm not much into toys.
And never had a interest in guitars.
Although I do have the Killers figure they had listed with the broke fingers.

My banners and shirt have all been bought at the concert venues I have attended through my miss spent youth and ill guided adult hood.
And I still attend shows.

Funny thing was I have vinyl sets of Maiden that weren't listed and I was really really surprised there were wasn't a Heavy Metal collection of magazines. And by that I mean the Magazine Heavy Metal.
Seemed with all John was into and collected, that was a given and I was really hoping to pick some reader grade copies.

Damn Tom - I'd assumed you got this!

What happened Bro?

It went to whoever "2****0" is - and for only $11 - https://www.proxibid.com/aspr/Ghost-Rid ... d=36462820

They must be a keen hobbyist (I counted 14 kits in that same auction, including 2 of the same Geo Tremors kit). They also have broad tastes in subject matter - all sorts of genres bought.

Ya Tom I thought you got it.

When you said you wanted it back I didn't even bid on it out of respect.

A bit steep.
$55 for shipping.
But, I'm not quite sure how big those 2 houses are. so that might account for it.
They probably put those in a box and the rest in another box.
Will see, when they arrive.

John's family would have done better to get the shipping fees than the bids. $40 to ship a little vinyl kit shipped in a refrigerator box.

Haven't had time to post. But I did get the packages on Friday.
Big boxes.
And they were actually pretty darn full. And heavy.
So, yeah, shipping was pretty on the nose.

As I suspected, one box had the 2 buildings. Didn't realize the resin one actually had a base with it too. Really good sized.
And I forgot how big those Maiden kits were. Especially that Killer Eddie.

Image

I did have a little damage this time though. Not sure if it happened in transit, or if they were already dinged before. Both the BIR killers had an arm break at a joint. Luckily the painted one is also pinned with wire or something, so I just have to add a drop of super glue and it should be all set.
Both the houses had some issues as well. Mainly the little fiddly bits on the roofs.
A little super glue fixed the ones that had parts present. But the resin one lost some tree branches. Looking at the pic again, they were missing before it was sold, so . . .

Good to hear they got the packing RIGHT on yours Trev (unlike Harry's, and MY initial box  ).

Apparently the "bad packing" issue was "taken care of" . . . and given the way the conversation went, I took that as implying the person was let go (I didn't pry).

I actually feel a bit bad - I'm sure it wasn't just my complaint that did it, but I hope they at least gave the person a second chance.

Now I'm waiting nervously on boxes 2 & 3 arriving - one (35lb) with the car + 7 built kits + T + 4 banners, the other (51lb) with all 101 of the AFM & KB mags.

Man I hope most of those builds turn up undamaged :? :|

Well, after a sad day earlier in the week picking up a (non-related) shipment that turned out to be damaged before shipping, AND was badly packed so got even MORE damaged DURING shipping  . . .
      • . . . John's remaining 2 packages (box #2 & #3) turned up Wednesday and I (almost) couldn't be happier :D
  • • Box #1 was the raw kits they shipped a couple of weeks ago. Arrived safely but box was WAY too big and was shipped in error when they were supposed to put these items in the box with the buildups.
    • Box #2 was the magazines. All were carefully wrapped & protected, and the outer box survived with just a couple of dents.
    • Box #3 was the buildups. This is the one I was REALLY worried about. However - they did a great job. Carefully bubble-wrapped, held together with rubber bands and tape that easily came off the wrap. Everything was then nested and firmed-up using scrunched-up paper.

    • Both of the latest boxes were perfect sizes (although they COULD have EASILY fitted the box #1 kits in with the buildups).

    • I’m trying to get a refund for box #1 packing/shipping charges (since that was their mistake).
    • They appear to have overcharged for labour/materials on box #3 ($70 instead of the expected $35).
    • I’m also going to have to get them to file a claim with USPS for breakage/damage to a couple of the buildups.
Not too bad – certainly could have been a lot worse! :D

There’s now bits of John’s collection placed carefully all round my office. Awesome :hot:

I’m going to post another thread in the “Garage” forum to ask some questions relating to some of the builds.
