Hey PZ !
I'm just now starting to do some small scale figures but I'm having trouble getting the skin to look smooth. I get a graininess to the surface. What am I doing wrong ?

Ellis, I usually use my airbrush for skin tones, but try diluted your paint ..using it straight from the bottle is too thick for miniatures..distilled water works best. build your tones up in layers..meaning, dont try and get the next tone with one swipe..once your base color is on,then use really thin paint...not too thin though..you dont want it watery

Completely agree with PZ. What I would suggest (if you don't already use one) is to get yourself a wet palette.

They give you special paper, but you could use parchment paper just as easily.

Besides keeping specially mixed colors from drying before you're finished using it, you can make the paints as diluted as you like. HTH
