WIP- 3D Printed Lady Deadpool kit

#1 Post by sparkvark007 »

WIP Update from previous topic >>> http://theclubhouse1.net/phpBB3/viewtop ... 4&t=119047

This is my first 3D printed kit build. Great first impression. It has the weight and feel of the old vinyl kits. But the rendered details are a THOUSAND times better.

Lady Deadpool is assembled, primed and ready for some paint.

The 3DP detail looks awesome.

note: It's not a lousy paint job, that's kit rendered worn leather look detail on her belt.

I'm pretty sure this is a casting, not directly from a 3d printer.

Printing items directly for sale would be very expensive and time consuming. I know this from producing many 3d sculpts.

just got mine in,and yes, its a 3D print, not a resin cast. I too am very surprised , especially at the price, not much room for profit there.

I've seen some Walking Dead figures from MAIM that are direct prints, still on the support structures.

Got mine in the mail and it’s incredible. It is a 3D print and excellent for the price. At first I thought the optional hand holding the sword was cast in resin but after closer examination I can see it is also 3D material. It’s a different color so I’m guessing its a stronger resin since the sword is so long.

I want to start mine but I have some other projects that need to be finished. I’ll be watching this thread closely.

Hey SparkVark. What did you use to fill in the minor gaps between the top of the belt and the torso? I normally use Aves but I’m not sure how well Aves will work with this material.

Thanks

OPUS...

I think Aves will work. I used a tube putty. But in hindsight, Aves is probably the better way to go. After filling in the gap, you can go back over it with a solvent or water wet Q-Tip to remove the excess putty out of the adjacent costume texture.

My experience with 3D prints has been that Aves and similar epoxy putties adhere to them nicely.

Holy Smokes that is extraordinary detail, well beyond what I would have thought possible in printed pieces.

Unless it's 3:1 scale. :)
Plausible deniability.

Have to say - this looks like it could be the future of the hobby - and a way of drawing in a large number of new hobbyists.

Thanks for creating the thread Charlie :thumb2:

Hi guys, these are the kits I produce.

Yes they are all 3d printed. Yes it is very hard to make a profit!! I am furthering my hobby by offering these, not making money to buy a Bentley and a condo in South Beach!

To address some of the questions, Filling can be done the traditional ways, the resin reacts the same as 2 part casting resins in traditional kit resin.

I personally use a small dropper bottle with a needle point and thinned out perfect plastic putty, which i inject into the seam let dry, then use a wet cotton bud or q-tip to clean up.

If anyone has questions you can reach me here directly!

Love to see the kits being shared and discussed. Lots of new offerings coming soon!

I’ve made a little more progress on this one. This kit comes with three options for her left hand. They all look great so I decided to accommodate using them all by adding some mini magnets. I will also add a magnet joint for her head. The included katanna weapon is a bit heavy looking so I will be replacing it with a thinner more accurate looking one I got off of EBAY.

Great idea with the magnets - they are SO cheap/small/strong these days it's a no-brainer to use them.

Mike, this is really nice work and I am blown away by the resolution on the 3D printer. I am assuming from the pictures that there is no need for smoothing out any surface texture issues on the parts as they are removed from the printer. Really, really nice!
