Brass paint

#1 Post by billikenmonster »

Can anyone recommend a good color brass paint. I like the Alclad metal paints but all they have is a polished brass which is too bright. just looking for a normal duller brass. Thanks

You could try using a bright brass paint and then cover it with a brown glaze. On this pillar/electrode, I painted it with Testors copper spray and then wiped it with a brown wood stain:

That is a nice copper color the polished brass is too bright i think even with the wash it would have a brighter luster. I could try that and see if it tones it down. All the brass paints i have seen dont look like brass

Agreed! Try Humbrols or the AK true metal one.

Vallejo has a good one in their normal lineup, which is just a metallic acrylic, not overly bright.

They also have a waterbased version of metallics like Alclad (they need a gloss black primer underneath too), which are excellent, but not as shiny as the lacquer based ones. Might be what you're after.
Plausible deniability.
