Aliens Big Head from Earthbound Studios

#1 Post by sivousplay »

Hey Everyone,

I just finished this awesome piece from Earthbound Studios. By far the largest piece I've ever tackled. It was really fun to see if I could do it w/ my hand brush techniques and I'll have to say I'm really pleased with the outcome. As always, everything was done w/ a handbrush using acrylics and inks. That is amazing Jim - both the sculpt AND your buildup.

I've never seen this before - when was it released?

Do you know if they have done any of the others (Alien, A3 or AR)?

Hey Ian,

Thanks for the kind words!! I got one of the first few (to the best of my knowledge) late last year. Mark Brokaw (he did all the casting / production work) lives nearby and I got it at a local kit builders meet up that we attended in Fall 2018. Earthbound produces an entire line of big heads for a number of classic horror and other early horror themes. This is probably their most modern-themed piece. They don't have any other Giger-inspired alien pieces in their lineup.

Cheers,
jim

Great work! Did you do all of this with a brush or airbrush?

Every time I see your work, still amazed that you hand paint. Another stellar piece Jim!

Outstanding work, Jim!!!
Your use of colors, shading, and textures really make this
piece come alive. With so many "hand painting" techniques
that can be used, an airbrush isn't always necessary.
Apparently you know a few of them - Lol!!!

You can achieve so much more using drybrush and washes.. etc.
Awesome job by the way..

Amazing brush worrk Jim, not easy on something that size.

As much as I like the paintwork you've achieved on the main body my eye is drawn to the detail on the base.

Impressive sculpt.
