David and the Nazi Demon - 1/4 scale double-bust from Typhon

#1 Post by csoldier »

Next off the bench is Typhon Studios “David and the Nazi Demon” double-bust, beautifully sculpted by Jeff Yagher.

This is a huge ‘lump’ of resin (if you haven’t got one) and with the added wooden base is a fair old weight. I added the wooden base to protect the kit base from knocks.
I’ve gone slightly off-piste with the Demon’s uniform and added piping around the epaulettes, and painted the back of the collar in a dark green (I think German uniforms had this). This step was pure artistic license on my part.

I decided to finish the blade in Alclad chrome to give it that highly polished finished – as a note here, although ‘stating the bleeding obvious’, do remember to attach the blade the right way so it is touching David’s throat, especially if assembling the hand and knife beforehand. I did, but I remember years ago on a military figure I attached the handle of the sword the wrong way.

As a final touch I added two London Underground lapel pins to either side of the kit base as the texture appears to be very reminiscent of tiling on the London Underground system (not sure if this was designed with that in mind). I could have used Tottenham Court Road station signs (if available) as I believe the Tube scene was filmed at this station on the Northern Line section.

Anyhow, thoroughly enjoyable double-bust project and well done to Team Typhon, Mike and Brian.

On furlough Ant, LOL. Took a bravery test and finally used the bottle of Alclad that's been sitting on the shelf for three years to do the blade ;)

Wow, that's fantastic, I love the drool on the demon's lips, really captures the impact and
shock of the original scene, at 1/4 scale it must be huge!

It looks like Typhon present their work very well, the box label, certificate and trivia notes on the film all add up
to a thoughtful and classy package, not to mention of course commissioning some of the best sculpting talent on the planet.
I'm very interested to see the forthcoming Karloff / Pierce tribute!

Great work Dave, thanks for sharing and keeping us inspired!

Hi Paul,

Cheers for the kind comments :) - yes Typhon does go the extra-mile with the whole presentation package which does add up to a classy product. It is a large lump of resin given the scale LOL, just glad it was in smaller components :P .

The Karloff/Pierce is a limited edition of 100 kits ;)
