Sometimes I wonder what happened to people

#1 Post by Todd P. »

So many names over the years, so many people who've come and gone from the Clubbhouse. Some of them, I never really knew who they really were.

Like Scott M. Remember him? Quite active, had a lot of interesting stuff to say about movies. Last posted a little over three years ago.

Branes. Had some interesting conversations with him. No clue where he might be now.

19Ratman66, Ron Sherwood. Used to be one of the guys I considered a "real world" friend. But I haven't heard from him in years. I don't think he writes for AFM anymore.

Richard Cacioppo honestly drove me a little nuts. But I didn't expect him to drop the place in 2015. I think he was mad that no one was as excited as he was.

3Demonic ... just gone. No idea what he's up to these days. I think his name is Ali.

Bill Mayo, Ryan Pedersen, Mark Mitchell, Steven Lee, Norm Piatt ...well, I still see what's up with them on Facebook, but it strikes me that none of them are active here anymore. It's been a while since I traded emails with Charlie Dunton.

Yup, I was just scrolling the early pages of the "What song did you listen to today", clicking on the posters profiles, seeing how many years have passed since they last posted. Lots of guys I recall taking with. Miss Angel Eyes (GREAT Lee Van Cleef avatar!).

I think that the advent of all the new so-called social media sites has fragmented the modeling community. Too many sites to keep up with, and once you get addicted to the click model of FB that gives you a quick buzz, maybe coming to a forum like this to post a well thought out well reasoned piece just doesn't quite hack it.

But I resolved to be one of the ones who's going to keep the lights on here for as long as we're around. I absolutely hate the new social media clickbait model, which also makes it impossible to search for anything and which loses or forgets yesterday's posts due to the endless scrolling nonsense.

We also lost a bunch back in the busy days due to all the drama.
I think the drama drove more people from the hobby than bad sellers ever did.

I know Ron is still around, see him every year at WF.
Ali is still on FB
And I think Richard left because he was trying to get everyone to his own site and got mad when most weren't interested.

Couldn't agree more.

The CH is still my first go-to site of the day, best designed for modelers to get information and to support each other and the hobby.

*DARN* I think I was "in-between" hobbies during the "drama years" when I was an infrequent poster, so I must have missed the  . :rolf:

Seriously ... too bad about that. I do recall some recasting controversy involving Matt Mannit's dinosaurs about 10 years ago that got one member banned (Scott something or other) ... the other stuff must have been more figure-related, so I probably didn't see it as I didn't frequent those directories as much ...

As all of us old-hats know the reasons for people leaving the board are many & varied - some forced, some understandable, some disappointing, and some a relief :)

On the flip side, the reasons for those of us that are still here are simple  a positive, knowledgeable, talented and friendly crowd, and (historically - excepting that tay666 fella  ) the very BEST staff that I have EVER encountered on ANY online forum or social media site.

There are quite a few of us that I know will be the very last to turn off the lights as the building eventually gets electronically condemned . . . we're just too appreciative of this ol' place (along with a bit of stubbornness I guess  )

That's an odd thing to post, Scuzz. Plenty of people might say that about those of us who stick with the Clubhouse. Mark likes what he likes, and obviously you at least have visited enough to see that he's still active there.

Mark started at HT and always felt at home there, why wouldn't he post there?
You need to quit being so negative about everything. People come here to have fun not listen to constant complaining.

Hobby talk is echo of what it was.. I was wondering why he doesn't post here..

By the definition of forum means sharing thoughts and opinions and point of views with others..
I'm just opinionated.. I use to be worse.........
