'You'll enjoy Mr Barlow, and Mr Barlow will enjoy you!"

#1 Post by Tiger2 »

Hi Folks,

Here's a little project I've been playing with recently, 1/3rd scale Mr Barlow from the classic 1979 TV film of Stephen King's 'Salem's Lot'.
I have to say at the time, Barlow scared the crap out of me and James Mason played the role of his evil guardian brilliantly.

I picked this bad boy up at the recent UKGK show, I've always wanted a Barlow piece on the shelf and this ticked the box!
Digitally sculpted very nicely by Andrew Copeland, the main parts cast traditionally in resin by Killer Kits. The torso is hollow cast, the head solid,
while his trademark hands were 3D printed. I can only guess those long talons would be a nightmare to get out of a rubber mould.

He's quite an imposing figure at around 13" tall, looming over the Marsten House on the base. Fussy bugger that I am, I did a little resculpting with Milliput
on the edges of the cape as I wanted it to hang over his right arm more and also thickened up his fangs a little. Then got into painting his head and hands.
Still a way to go, I've got to add some veining in pastels on his head and the hands are only roughed in with first washes, awaiting oils to soften up the blends.

As usual, I'l be back when I've got more to share!

I’m making slow progress with Mr Barlow, but at least it’s progress! The head and hands are just about done, I still want to refine some of the
blends and also add some veins with pastels. Also, eyes and mouth need to be glossed.

I decided to add the film logo to the back of the base to create another point of interest. I cut the letters from styrene sheet and attached
them with super glue, quite tedious but I think it will look ok under paint. Still need to add the crumbled edges, I think I’ll paint it purple
to match the movie graphics.

The cape is work in progress, just blocked in with a few dark tones so I can see the house properly, which is also just roughed in.
I’m aiming for that night time, moonlit look, so going for blues and greys, with those 3 windows at the top lit up for some bright accents.
Lots to do, but hopefully going in the right direction.

Cheers for now, stay safe and well everyone!

Very wet and windy here in the UK and no, nothing I've eaten! So I made the most of a quiet Sunday afternoon today and
got started on some shading on Barlow and the creepy house on the base. Going for the moonlit look, slowly getting there...!

Cheers,
Paul
