MATTEL JP LEGACY GIANT BRACHIOSAURUS 2019 / EDIT: AND NOW IN 2024 THE MIGHTY DREADNAUGHTUS!!! - MY EXPERIENCE

#1 Post by bucketfoot-al »

So this baby 'hit the street' this morning, 10/06/2019. Exclusive at Target stores for ONLY $49.99 (!!!???!!) I reserved mine a few days ago (I had read that they already were in the back of the stores) so I had them take one out and hold it for me til this morning. I plan to do a little repainting on this one.

Not a kit, but still worthy of mention here as it WILL significantly 'enhance' any large scale dinosaur display!

So, I got there at 0800 this morning as they opened the doors. The customer service people looked and said "nothing back here, we are not supposed to hold stuff."

OK - I ran down to the toy section. Nothing on the shelves. Went back to customer service and insisted they look again.

Finally - behind some boxes, they found MY BOX just as the gal left it 3 days ago. PAYDIRT!!! Needless to say, I was as excited as if it was Christmas morning a "few" decades earlier!!

Some photos to illustrate the action:

And now, a few pics of this baby dominating the kitchen - and with a few Sega and PNSO dinosaur 'friends':

After a few days she will move to a permanent display with the other large scale critters. For now she needs to be "front and center"!!

Reminds of me of Horizions.
Be sure you feed it enough vegetables..

 Actually its BIGGER than the Horizon Brach, about an inch taller and a MUCH BULKIER body. Clearly its based on the same maquette, though. This toy is more accurate than the Horizon Brach., which has a bit of an emaciated torso and a neck that is too vertical ... (and, of course, the neck on this one moves and can be adjusted several ways ...)

The Sega and PNSO figures pictured with it are about 1/24 scale, so I'd say this Brach works out to 1/20 scale (think "Sauroposeidon" gigantic) or maybe 1/18 scale for a very large Brach. I think it will scale well with my Horizon TRex (which I now have the excuse to complete).

I have a couple of Horizon Rexies, one unbuilt, the other one is pretty warped (and unexpertly glued together by someone else years ago that I got for "a song"). I have wanted to correct the Horizon Rex by bulking up the legs (resculpting, really) massively, and this baby put that project back on my mind ... that 'deformed' one will work, but I'll have to disassemble it and then strengthen it first ... too many projects, and NO TIME!!

Hah! You wish! 😉 For now it's fate is to be in the background of a display of more accurate, but smaller 1:20 scale dinosaur models. As no one will ever produce a perfectly accurate sauropod of that size, due to the prohibitive cost, these Mattel sauropods, cheap toys as they are, are certainly accurate enough to lurk in the background of a display of the more accurate critters! 🤩
