Anyone remember Quark?

#1 Post by Glusniffer »

Mega cheesey sci-fi sitcom from 1978. Only ran 8 episodes in 1978 but there were 2 great reasons for watching! 8)

Well. You were right about the TWO reasons to watch.

But seriously, anything with Richard Benjamin had to have the entertainment consistency of "fluffy dreck". How that clown ever got a single paycheck in Hollyweird has always escaped me .... :alcoholic:

I remember watching it, but I was 8 so don't really remember much. To anyone wondering, yes this is where they got the name Quark for DS9.

I added this to my Watch Later list.

C'mon Spike - Catch-22, Westworld, Last of Sheila (one of my favorite murder/mystery movies), The Sunshine Boys - plus directing one of my favorites - My Favorite Year - with Peter O'Toole as an Errol Flynn-esque actor appearing on Live TV for the first time without knowing it (I'm not an actor, I'm a movie star!!).

They changed some of the cast after the pilot. A character that they added was the Vegaton named Ficus. At the time the place where I worked got a tree named Ficus Benjamina. i wonder if that was intentional.

I'm not Spike, I'm Vlad.

You know - tall, handsome & thin (but not nearly as rich) like my former countrymen Nikola and Luka who are dominating the NBA as I type this. (I do speak a variety of languages and accents, BTW, but none of them is a "drunken Scottish brogue") :alcoholic: Right Spike?

If you must, just call me a "Barbarian from the Balkans" (I am partial to that moniker myself - I use it frequently to point to my more virile traits)*

*That was a JOKE, BTW. 8) I realize that these things often don't come across clearly on the typed page, but, your post moved me in a humorous direction, so allow me a little "freestyle improvisation" that is hopefully of some entertainment value. :mrgreen2: (Did I mention how much I love The CH and the folks who take time to post and interact with each other on here? Well I do. I'll do anything for yall! :bannana: )

Anyhow ... Richard Benjamin played these "milquetoast" types of characters that never resonated with me. Different temperaments at work I would guess. I am more of an old-time slapstick and British Pythonesque "high-brow" humor type of a guy.

Seriously ... I am sure Benjamin was a nice guy in real life (because that is the character he always played on screen), and had obvious talents - else he would not have lasted as long as he did nor done all of the things he did. I would have probably found him interesting company for conversation. :D

I was 11 when it aired and thought it was hilarious and was sorry when it got canceled.
I have not watched it since then as I don't want to damage that memory.

I just might do that - thanks! :thumb2:

Did some research and both Benjamin and his wife are still with us, God Bless them! :D The Peter O'Toole movie - which I vaguely recall although I don't believe I've seen it - particularly interests me! :hot:

Yes, as the Van Helsing type character.

Never watched this, and had never even HEARD of it until now.

HOWEVER - the thread title scared the heck out of me . . . I initially thought Armin Shimerman had passed away!

Take care everyone - Vlad.

The Character Gene/Jean who periodically changed gender would probably not fly today :)
