Prehistoric Scenes Display Table.

#1 Post by Glusniffer »

Quick story... Besides the Aurora monster kits the P scenes were my favorites mainly because of the way they fit together like a puzzle. So in 2003 I joined E-bay and wasted no time recollecting the old kits. After building and painting them I built a cool table in 2005 to display them and even made custom add on bases long before any of the current add on's were available. I had BIG plans for this table but sadly, shortly after me and my wife at the time separated and eventually divorced. Now 20 years later I'm gonna complete this dream project! Soooooo.......

This is a pic of my art studio in 2017.

This is a current pic showing the start of my project. Notice how the cheap Amazon pics have faded out. (cheap 5hit). Besides Kiss, can anyone name the other 3 bands?

The Doors, The Mamas & Papas and The Runaways? Give this man a beer!

So I found these cheap polyester backdrops on Amazon. I used spray adhesive and a squeegee to get most of the wrinkles out and its been a real pain in the butt. I didn't remove the old posters because someday some one else will get this house and will no doubt remove all this so I wanted to leave a surprise. :D If you look closely at he mountains you can see the ghost of Momma Cass.

This piece will be difficult. The terrain matches but not the color but I have some ideas how to bring it together. 8)

I actually started this project in late 2007 when I built my Proto but didn't follow through with it....

Cool idea on the backdrop, that will look great! And I like the easter eggs you're leaving behind!

I really like the backdrops. They're going to add a lot to the display.

Some more work.

This is my current plan. I had an extra piece of jungle fabric. I had to trim it to fit. Now I just have to make the overlap blend together.

Thanx guys. Nothing to show today. The humidity is back and made me lazy. I did spend some time on Trevor's P-Senes site looking at all the great worx there and saw a few things. Apparently I'm not the 1st to use these backgrounds. Also reading all the kits discriptions I noticed the swamp kit DOES have two moving parts those being the two cycad stumps. The two little circles that the palm fronds go into will swivel if you don't glue them. Then I was studying the T-rex kit and saw were one was used in an episode of the 'Greatest American Hero' .Now watch this clip...... Look in the window when Peewee gets out of bed! 8)

I spent way too much time on this but had to remind myself its just a backdrop and also thought that there's no hurry. But painting this fabric is like painting a sponge. Anyhoos I'm happy with it. So moving along...... 8)

Absolutely gorgeous Jeff!! (I'm assuming that's your name Gluesniffer ... if not ... Mea Culpa! )

That is quite a work of art itself - a masterful backdrop for the iconic Pre-Scenes - cannot wait to see your display!! :drool2: :drool2: :drool2:

Thanx, but again these are cheap polyester prints from e-bay used for photo shots. They come in a variety of sizes and look great on the website pics but when you get them they're folded up to the the size of a brick!
So you have to spend some serious time getting the folds out. Again this has been a MAJOR pain in the a55. In hindsight I've wondered if wallpaper or aquarium backdrops would have worked better. But being a labor of love the time involved will be much more appreciated. But the materials are out there if ya go looking for them. 8) That being said here's a couple more pics.
Bye Doors.. :(

I wanted to gets some more pics but to the right of the project is a card table piled up with all kinds of crap! I gotta get it it out of the way........... Also the overhead led light will be relocated to my workbench. This was were I used to get pics of my finished kits.
