Iron Maiden's Eddie

#1 Post by kevtk135 »

I was in the need for something simple (on my part) to paint, and I had Mike Swiss' Eddie staring at me so here he is!

Nice!
I have that kit waiting in the wings. Someday it will get to the workbench.

Very cool, looks like the Piece of Mind version? I was watching the Flight 666 documentary recently,
when Bruce flew the band round the world in 2008. That man is from another planet, how can one person be a top vocalist, aircraft pilot and
Olympic fencing champion?! Some great footage of them delivering what they do best, I've seen Maiden live on several occasions.

Most memorable, the 7th Son of a 7th Son tour at Donnington Monsters of Rock, then again on the Somewhere in Time tour. Now I recall a very nice looking kit being produced
of Eddie based on 'The Trooper' record cover artwork, dressed for the Charge of the Light Brigade and storming forward with flag and sword, has anyone built one of these?

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks!!
I remember seeing the kit you're talking about (but don't have it). Michael Kontraros Minatures recently produced a set of Maiden miniatures that look pretty cool. Sadly they omitted the first album cover which I happen to like best. Oh well.

Yeah, those are nice, but I couldn't justify the cost vs the size. Especially since I already have the set from CMON
https://www.tylisaari.com/models/eddie/mini.htm

I think the kit you are discussing is the one from Creative Castings.

Which was also offered to fan club members as a painted statue back around 1999 / 2000

Wow, great collection there Trevor, the minis all look very nice, my favourites are 'The Trooper' and 'Live after Death'. Like you say,
a shame they are not larger, I wonder if they would print larger?
Looks like the details would be fine on this scale, might not be sufficient to scale up at 1/8th or 1/6th?
The Creative Casting kit is the one I was thinking of, nice score! A better scale, the details look very nice, although the base doesn't quite capture the album cover artwork.
I believe it's quite an old kit now, pretty sure it was a UK company and sculpted by a guy called Chris Forward. Might just have to get the detective hat on and track one down!

I'm still trying to track down the Clansman kit that was available at the same time. Only seen 2 come up over they years and too rich for me.

Anyway, back to Kev's kit.
You got any more pics? I do really like what you did with the eyes on it. Gonna steal that idea for one of mine someday.

No, I felt what I did was so simple that I didn't bother with WIPs.
But basically primed in white, then I washed the whole thing in Citadel's Reikland Fleshshade - too red
Then went back over it with citadels Agrax wash.

Then the metal parts I gloss blacked, and then used Army Painter's Chain Mail. To make things a little different,
the hasp of the lock was done in V's Gunmetal (from the regular color line). The actual lock body was left black.
The tongue is Vs Beige Red, and the teeth were Army Painter's Skeleton Bone.

For the glowing eyes I took a lesson from this miniature painter Eliminaturista - https://www.youtube.com/@elminiaturista/featured , He is a wizard with making regular paint look glowing and OSL!
The down side is most of his longer vids are behind patreon. But if you watch his Shorts a few times in a row, you get the idea of what he's doing.

So I painted the sockets black, and then sculpted in is an indication of where the irises go. I painted that Ivory.
When that was dry, I airbrushed more Ivory over the irises leaving a little spray over the line. When that was dry I took one of the ball styluses I have
dipped it in black and added the pupils. Then put satin over the whole eye socket.
A close up look shows things are not perfect, but it gives a clue of the steps.

The ball styluses can be gotten as a set in the clay section of any craft store.

Yeah, I have a set of those, along with a few other sculpting pieces for when I do seem work.
