Kit-con contest

#1 Post by barad_dur »

I plan to enter 3 kits into the kit-con model contest.

2 of these are finished kit-bashes that I previously entered in Wonderfest contest.

The 3rd one is a kitbash work in progress.
I have most of the modifications made and have started painting.

Please share how many entries you plan to bring and their status.

Good luck - let us know how the attendees react!!! (As if we don't know already! :drool2: )

Any pics you can take of noteworthy builds would be awesome! Have a safe trip! (How far is it from y'all?)

Thanks Vlad !
It’s about 5 hours from home . Not too bad as it takes us 9 hours to get to Wonderfest.

And here I thought that scuzz was just pulling your leg Joe! 😂

Meanwhile I'm stuck in jury duty today with nothing to do but wait ... and wait ... and wait ... 😭😁

Hey Joe, did you and the Missus ever discuss a possible trip to visit the studio of your fellow basher down here in San Antone some time this Winter when the weather is a lot nicer than up in VA? 😉

Send me a PM. Would love to have you ( and there's lot's to do down here too!) 🤩

Dragon did not place.
Death dealer earned a silver .
Got a ton of compliments on both though .
Very tough competition and judging .

Thank you Trevor and Scuzz

Lots of people were taking pics.
Pics on kit con fb page or resin maniacs.
There is a video on YouTube posted by cult tv man .

Judging was different from Wonderfest .
Not totally open. Limited to only one or two in gold or silver in each category .
I saw many kits that would have easily earned gold, silver or bronze at Wonderfest .
NOTE that I am NOT complaining ; just pointing out it’s a different judging system. Tough but fair.

Congrats on the Silver. Gonna have to look up some of those pictures!

Edit: Took a peek at some of the pics on the FB kitcon page - An impressive mish-mash of subjects, all jumbled together in display. Couldn't help thinking that your two builds looked out of place among that crowd - they should have been with a kitbash/fantasy group away from the robots, figures and spaceships. Hard to focus on anything in particular looking at those pics. Disorganized is the word that comes to mind. And why did they 'hide' your monster jousting 'bash off to the side up against a wall? Was it just a matter of who got their models into the display room first? :-k

It was not mishmashed.
Death dealer was entered into diorama category as it had multiple figures per the category rules .

Its been ... a few years since I attended a model show ... I'll bet there were mucho entries, hence the (seeming) crowding ... the only shows I've attended were IPMS affairs, and always had a multitude of tables each for a different category ... not as many models entered in those, of course ...

Thank you!

When I walked into the contest room after all the entries were set up , I knew that it was going to be very very hard to earn a medal!

The contest table did look a little jumbled... I did remind of IMPS shows though..
