They have gradually been increasing in popularity, but the last 10 years has seen an explosion of fandom following an adjustment to the style of music they have released.

The earlier stuff (1st 2 albums etc.) was very weird (YMMV) - just not my thing, and was too OTT on the "satanic forces" angle (which has of late morphed into a much-subdued gimmick thank goodness!), but I love everything from the 3rd album (2015's "Meliora") onwards. My fave is 2022's "Impera" - which absolutely SLAUGHTERS everything else they have ever done (IMO), and is close to being my fave album EVER.

I wouldn't say that Tobias Forge was the best vocalist out there (that title goes to Lzzy Hale & David Coverdale for me). He made a REALLY bad job of the live covers he did of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and Ozzy's "Bark At the Moon" at events earlier this year. I suspect it was a combination of nerves and lack of practice on the songs that contributed there though. But he is an amazing frontman, an extremely talented entertainer, a creative genius, and "thinks big". The musicians he tours with and the co-writers he works with are also of the highest calibre.

I wish they had come here for the "Impera" tour, but at least the set was recorded and released within a "movie" - "Rite Here Rite Now", most of which has been uploaded to YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... akEbIQ5_Az . . .
      • . . . I never thought anything would knock Iron Maiden's "Rock in Rio" DVD off the top "live DVD" spot for me - but this DID!

Just a couple of selections from the above linked playlist (not my faves from this - but darn good fun) . . .

I've been following this fella for a while now - self-admitted AI generated, but even so - takes a fair bit of skill and time to pull this off at this level of quality.

He hits it out of the park 2 times out of 5 (I've bookmarked nearly 40 great ones over the last 4 weeks), and makes you wish that real bands had thought these up and performed them.

The one of todays that impressed me was this - THE EVIL THAT MEN DO - IRON MAIDEN (Mariachi Metal Cover in Spanish) . . .

For I Am Death - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWTNGMAH500

Heard it on the radio and have been playing it several times since I got home.
This song has still held my attention.
It is dangerous when it comes on the radio. I want to drive in a very reckless manner.
This song, and The Emptiness Machine from Linkin Park https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRXH9AbT280
both cause my foot to get extremely heavy. They also cause me to 'sing' in a very loud voice (which annoys the dogs when I have them with me  )

My daughter turned me onto another group last night.
Autumn Kings
Checked out some of their stuff on YouTube last night.
These are the 2 songs I liked the best
Hellbound - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOnM4pbxR68
Interesting mash-up of a few styles.

I Can't Sleep - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3JDlUDk0t0
Not sure what it is about this song that hooks me. Maybe it's just the relentlessness of it.

Cover of Bad Company's "Shooting Star" by Halestorm (featuring Paul Rodgers).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qmf-dN9 ... rt_radio=1

I'm conflicted about this one. I love it as a cover! But, as a collaboration, the only way to bury Paul's contributions deeper in the mix would have been to give him a dead microphone. I know Paul's voice ain't what was, but come on! I would love to hear some other opinions

Agree with you 100% bud.

Having said that - listening to this reminds me just how talented every member of the band is . . . take a classic song and give it the "Halestorm" treatment and they SHINE !

Also - I had that white leather jacket - well - not that EXACT jacket - THAT got destroyed in a fight between women (don't ask!) . . . but exactly the same style/cut. Looks better on Lzzy though

OK Spike - you can't just say something like that and just leave us hanging out there. 🤔😂

What disclosing too many personal details, you've got to tell us at least how that leather jacket was destroyed. 😁

I agree Spike. This is right in Lizzy's wheelhouse and she owns it, and the rest of the band more than does justice to the original!

First, my thoughts on the cover. At first I was like, 'hm, decent cover with a little Halestorm flare to it.' Then at around the 4 minute mark, the Hale-ification really kicked in, and the song just rawked!

As for Paul's contributions. Yeah, he could have been a bit more prominent, but we also don't know how much involvement he actually wanted to have.
He was obviously recording from a different location, and maybe didn't like his own performance and wanted to minimalise it.

Also, what happened to Arejay's hair!
It has no color!

LOL - nothing worthy of the 9 o'clock news - just a bit of jealousy between 2 ladies who thought they were each entitled to the jacket when I stopped wearing it.

The disagreement was resolved via the introduction of a very sharp knife (to the jacket - not the ladies :) ).

Turns out, the "Shooting Star" cover is just one cut from a Bad Company tribute album that I was completely unaware of until now. Here's a link to the full album for anyone that would like to hear it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0WiB717vN0

As with most of tribute albums, this one makes me appreciate the original artists that much more. That being said, several of these are really decent covers. After one listen, my favorites are the covers of Shooting Star, All Right Now, Seagull, & Rock Steady. I was really surprised at how well Taylor Momson's voice suited All Right Now.

Just read an interesting quote from Paul. Apparently Halestorm recorded the song in their studio, then sent it to Paul. That was when he recorded his parts to be added. So what's there is exactly what he wanted to add to the song.
