Alien Executive Officer Kane

#1 Post by overspray »

This kit could spoil you. Virtually no seam lines, everything is keyed, a bunch of clear parts, good decals and detailed painting guides including full color photos of Kane's suit worn in the movie. Minimal putty and masking as well. Even the box is impressive.

The biggest challenge was how to get it lighted (which is optional). I ended up using 7 LEDs including three in the egg. I cut out the top of the egg because the face hugger is so detailed it seemed a waste if you couldn't see it. I left the egg clear and thinned it, but it's still too thick to see much of the face hugger from the side (but it helped with the lighting).

Excellent! Did you use a lighting kit?
I have one of these but haven't got around to building it. Thanks for the review also.

Oh man, that came out amazingly!
Love the paint work. Were some of those textures in the kit, or were they added with paint? Like that cast metal look to the top of the helmet parts.
And of course the lighting looks great.

Great result! You've really nailed the colours on the suit, a pivotal scene from my all time favourite Alien movie.

I pieced together the lights and got them from Evans Designs (https://evandesigns.com/?msclkid=b3ee21 ... %20-%20led). In retrospect, I wish I had just bought the lighting kit from Tena Controls (https://tenacontrols.com/product/alien- ... ing-kit-4/). It's a little more expensive, but takes all the guesswork out of it. Although, Tena's kit comes with 10 lights and a control board (not sure exactly what the control board does).

I didn't change any of the textures; all I did was add paint.
