As I said before Ive always used the cheap Dollar Store primer which works well, but they've ALL been out since the pandemic for some reason and I ran out. Last year I bought 2 cans of Krylon grey on the company card and that worked great until I ran out again. I recently ordered some Rustoleum grey (for plastic) on amazon and now my acrylic paint doesn't stick. Like oil and water. :?
As far as sealers Ive been using A brand called 'Treehouse Studios' both flat (matte) and gloss from Hobby Lobby for about 10 tears now. Big cans! I used Testors for years but the can is small, expensive and seems to always be out!

I'm still mad they cancelled all the model master sealers.. no more semi gloss.

Here's a positive note! I just took the parts that I sprayed with the crappy Rustoleum no stick primer and shot them with the Treehouse matte. Paint sticks like a gem now! 8)

Here's a shot of it. Notice the size and price difference.

I think I know what went wrong here. After reading up on that Zinsser primer, it is only for acrylic top coats.
The Rustoleum is an enamel and probably too hot for it.

Old thread!

I took a shot at buying a hobby primer - Tamiya (?) from a hobby store in Malden, Mass. I didn't like it! It was expensive and didn't cover very well. I used it on Konga, though, because the ape was molded in neon orange (what were they thinking?). It took a couple of primer coats to cover up the glow, but at least the dye didn't bleed through.

I'm also working on the Mummy from X-Plus. I washed it with isopropyl alcohol and started using acrylic craft paints on it without priming it first. It seems to have worked well.

I think I may try that with my next resin kit.

Working on this same model. I was surprised to see your having the same problem with the paint. I managed to get it to disappear with a few more coats when shading. I'm still not done with this part.
