1/13 scale Aurora Stegosaurus base enhancement 2025

#1 Post by Pre-Scenes 2 »

Hello everybody!
So, I was taking a page out of Glusniffer's handbag and started to recreate my own variations of bases for the PS add-ons and originals. I currently finished up the superb what if version of the Aurora PS Stegosaurus by the late Rick Wyatt and Alchemy Works.
The base came pretty basic with a rock, tree log and stump and a bulbous plant. (and if you were lucky, a baby steggy! :D ) It looked like a desert scene. I wanted it more of a swamp styled scene. With a few APS Jungle Swamp pieces and some resin cast tree stumps, I ventured into the unknown and built a voracious plant eaters dreamscape. Leaving a wake of dead and broken vegetation behind him. In front was still some fresh veg waiting to be et. During mid snack, he hears a growl and a twig snap. it was the Allosaurus sneaking up behind.
With that being said, here's links to the steps taken to it's current state; primed and unpainted.
Enjoy!

I love everything about this project.
Most especially the story behind it all.

Thanks! It was actually accidental the what the back story became. Since the Allo and Stego bases connect, it was only fitting that it self created the story.

As soon as the new Allo base is done and primed, the paint slapping will commence! :bgrin:

So what do you use to add the grass and rock to your projects? :?

I also use magnets on some things for its convenience.
Example: The small conifer from the JS I drilled a hole in the bottom of the plant and super glued the magnet in there. Did the same on the base, making sure the polars are opposite. Now, it can be removed whenever needed such as to paint.

I do the same with the JS tree leaves. Here's a tree I'm doing for the Allo base.

Magnets also makes moving kits around easier. Don't have to worry about snapping something off if you have to pack it in a box.

Magnets. Freaking brilliant!

My alternative that I have used successfully, is simply to insert a metal pin in the bottom of a tree, and then use that the same way that y'all are using the magnets.
