Terminator wall hanger

#1 Post by derekc62 »

Back in early December I received a Terminator wall hanger from the 1990s that was produced by Global Marketing and may have been sculpted by Mike Hill.

I'm hoping to have the project finished by the end of this month and it will be the subject of my next YouTube video.

I like how it's shaping up (notice how my own skin is pretty close to the tones I'm painting).

Hope I don't wreck it :D

A little more progress.

Still on track to finish before the end of the month.

I repainted the eye and ignored the sculpted detail. I thought it was too small and was looking in the wrong direction.

I finished the Terminator's chrome skeleton by using a chrome paint marker.

In the past, I've used Molotow and they're still great paint pens, but this time I used one from Let's Resin and it's just as good if not a little better. I find fingerprints are less of an issue with Let's Resin's paint pens.

The markers are especially good for smaller pieces and on this 1:1 scale skull I did get some streaking. So I simply pressed the paint pen into my air brush, collected a half a dozen drops or so and sprayed the chrome.

The Terminator's cybernetic eye was done using Tamiya's clear red over the chrome and I painted some black "panel lines" because without them the chrome was overwhelming and it was hard to appreciate the sculpted details.

Thanks Vlad.

My plan for the plaque that the bust is attached to is to make it look like the molten steel both Terminators are destroyed in at the end of T2

A little nervous about how I'm going to try to pull this off...

Looking good!!

And there’s no wrecking models. If things go bad it just takes a quick coat of primer and … take 2. ;)

Here are a couple of 'extreme' close-up shots of the molten steel effect on the plaque.

It turned out much as I has anticipated so I'm pleased.

Image Image

The heat effect was done with a base coat of white primer.

I then used a creamy white with a dab of yellow to spray most of the plaque leaving just a few traces of the white.

Over the pale yellow I used a darker yellow with a hint of orange and then 'hot' orange with a slight touch of red. Finally a purple/red/touch-of-brown combo was used for the darkest areas followed by a dry-brushing and misting of a charcoal grey for the slag.

Final photos will come tomorrow in the Model Museum and on my Members Collections thread once all the paint has cured.
