Thanks Trev - I'd seen these before. Not Lzzy at her best I have to say - but she's always cool. I'm starting to wonder if there is anyone she HASN'T done a duet with
Found a better version.

She sounds so much better 'live'.
And Lindsey sounds better in this one too.

Def a better version - thanks Trev.

Personal taste - but still think Lzzy is the only quality thing about this - the violin stuff just does NOTHING for me.

Great that Lzzy's star quality and unbeatable voice is getting more exposure though.

Can't wait for that new Halestorm album !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a classic rock guy at heart, but I admit I do like some of the new country stuff. While riding to work a few weeks ago I was dozing off (no I wasn't driving) and this song was on the radio. It really did catch my attention. When I got home I did a you tube search of who sang it and found this. I can't put my finger on it but for some reason after seeing the video I liked it even more.

I have to say that I love listening to both Lzzy Hale in Halestorm and Lindsey Stirling on her own, but combining them doesn't really work for me either.

I'm not sure exactly why, but I think it's because Lzzy is still singing like she is in a metal band and Lindsey is still playing her violin/dubstep style and it doesn't quite work together (at least in my opinion).

Another band to listen to that has an amazing vocalist is Nico Vega

And here is an acoustic song that really shows off Aja Volkman's voice.

Just shows how similar yet different we all are.

Have respect for all of you, and your tastes - so I'll try to be only mildly insulting  :)

Joe - I have to say I've never heard of those ladies before - but they look they should be on a downtown street corner (one of the cheaper ones). Ick. Not a fan of the song either. Tacky would be the best word. (* sorry - maybe I'm getting old my friend! *)

Trev - nah - that one neither - I love a bit of violin as an overlay or intro with Celtic-rock (like Thin Lizzy, Dare, Mama's Boys, Gary Moore etc.) - but kept waiting for the violin to fade out and the guitars to fire up. There's an element of her performance that reminded me of a friend back in the UK that suffered from occasional epilepsy too. (* more sorries *)

Robert - quite like the Nico Vega links (especially the 2nd one) - vocals & musical style on both reminded me of Joan Jett. There's also a bit of a classic 60's sound to Aja's voice on quieter parts. Never heard of the band OR Aja before now - research time! :) (* EDIT *) - yeah - def 60's voice - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSNHCdSR6tc - nice - REALLY nice! Thanks for the heads-up! :thumb2:

Heavy Metal Spike wrote:More "Nelson" - really getting into this band. DAMN have they got an interesting and checkered history (family & musical).
There are (at least) 3 bands this reminds me of - but I'm interested which tracks/bands YOU folks think of when you hear it.
  • • The start reminds me of one track in particular.
    • About 1 minute in reminds me of another band.
    • The bass & end refrain reminds me of another.
Wonder if we draw the same conclusions :?: :D

Great song - best played REALLY loud!
So - in case you were interested:
  • • Run to you - Bryan Adams
    • No particular track - Bon Jovi
    • No particular track - Blue Murder (John Sykes' band) - there's a LOT of Tony Franklin - style bass playing in Nelson's stuff

And speaking of John Sykes . . . . from 2000's "Nuclear Cowboy" - "We Will".

Damn that dude can write a mean riff - and then play it . . . . . DIRTY-like !!!! :)

Love his voice too (those Blue Murder albums are AMAZING!)

That's what makes the world go round. If we all agreed on everything, it would be really boring.
And personal taste, is just that, personal.

No offense taken.
I realize it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I have a built in proclivity towards that style of music due to one of my favorite faire acts. Circa Paleo
They hooked me with their version of Kashmir back in 07, since then I've fallen in love with almost everything they do. So yeah, I like good violin music, that isn't classical.

I liked the first one better. But I agree with the 60's style voice, but with a kind of updated sound. Sort of like a cross between Grace Slick, and Pink.

Thanks John. But from my last post I think our buddy Spike will disagree with that :D. I have to admit I'm really only a casual fan of Alvin Lee. To put that in perspective, I'm only a casual fan of Led Zepplin. Many good songs, but many that I don't like too. Now Rory on the other hand I am a huge fan of. Right after high school I was asked to join a band. The first thing they did was give me the album Photo Finish to learn Shin Kicker. At the time I heard of him but wasn't familiar with his music. Still my favorite Rory album. I was lucky enough to see him live twice. Small club, up close and personal. Top two all time favorite concerts for me.

This is a great live version of Shin Kicker from around the first time I saw him. He even screws up and sings a line thats not in the song instead of going into the chorus. Playing in his band must of been tough, I don't think he played a song the same way twice.
