Last week I bought a NICE wood display stand with the tree bark still on the edges .. first I had to glue a longish crack, which I managed to do with the help of a very useful holder-pin as you can see in the first photo. I plan to cover the stand with dark brown paint, then, using scenic glue, put some sand, grass and maybe a few cast rocks on there.

Its not much, but after a VERY busy work November, I managed to get started on this paint-up tonight ... I painted the highlighted "bulb" on the head, which will be reddish (as will be the spines) ... a mixture of Yellow and Flamenco Red (my fave red) ... next is to start on the dark blue-ish color pattern, starting on the head and moving rearwards ...

I bought a couple of "Mop Brushes" as it looked like they might make my job of patterning the color scheme - and blending the edges - easier than I could do with a normal brush. Basically I was checking the aisles in Hobby Lobby after picking up that wood base, and found them. We shall see how they work.

The "Motor City Madman" of rock n roll, famous for being vehemently anti-drug and anti-drink for 50 years while freely confessing that he is just naturally crazy:

Very little time to go to the garage lately ... we will be gone to Dallas next extended weekend til Christmas ... but tonight I managed another step ... to mix up enough paint (I hope!) for the primary undercoat on most of the figure (not the lighter bottom, obviously) ... mixed up a blueish gray that I can work with ... then later, add some darker blue patches with the Guache (spel.?) brushes and then some smaller black dot patterning interspersed ... getting ahead of my self ... used up the mixing brush residue on the head as a test ... I think its a "Go" ... :-k

I hear you about the limited bench time.
Nice shade of gray/blue you have there.
Fingers crossed that you have enough.

Thanks Trevor!

We'll have to wait to find out if I made enough paint - I did not get back to the bench today because I had to work this weekend and then spent the last 2 hours planning our itinerary and buying tickets for various events for our Dec 20-24 visit to see my kids up in Frisco, TX (just North of Dallas), about a 4-5 hour drive up from San Antonio. So this week will be a busy blur, then comes Christmas week ... I am hoping to get back to the Sauroposeidon in January ... its sheer size intimidates me, but I think I've planned it out as well as I can ... the actual pattern will sort of come together as I go along ... (my wife's the planner, not me, and she doesn't do art so she can't help me here ... :mrgreen2:)

... as Joe can attest, big bashes take big time ... this one is only 12 months old ... ... Groman's Kong took 2 years, and I've done a few bashes that took 7-8 years to finish (of course they lay forgotten on a shelf for most of that time) :rolf:
