started the 7th (i think) Dresden Files book: Dead Beat.

and just ordered the e-book version of "This Book Is Full of Spiders: Seriously, Dude,
Don't Touch It" (John Dies at the End 2) which is next on the pile.

Good news! Enjoyed 'John...' but thought it went off at
serious right angles there in the middle!! (The movie, correctly
I thought, just cut out that whole Vegas bit)

The last few books I read, Dandelion Wine By the great Ray Bradbury, Jailbird by Kurt Vonnegut, and just finished Big Fish by Daniel Wallice.

I agree, loved them both but having a hard time figuring which is better.

I'm just starting "The Man in the High Castle", the classic Philip K Dick novel. Got interested after seeing the Amazon Prime series first season. Before that, I read "The Martian" right before the movie came out, then saw the movie. Loved both....read the book in 2 nights. Couldn't put it down.

How do you like it so far? I read it last summer, after I saw the ads for Amazon's series, which I haven't seen. As a Dick story (huh huh, huh huh, uh, huh huh huh), I liked it better than "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" I liked how he developed the characters, and his postulated what-if world. What I have seen of the Amazon series, in ads and clips, looks overdone in terms of all of the Nazi imagery plastered everywhere, compared to what I painted in my mind when I read the book.

I'm currently reading, "The Rediscovery of Man", the collected short stories of Cordwainer Smith. I had only ever read his short story, "The Crime and Glory of Commander Suzdal", and I was curious to read the who collection. I need to get his novel, "Norstrillia", too.

Haven't gotten very far in it yet, but I like it. It's the first Dick (hehe) novel I read. I'm told it's considered his best, but I guess I should reserve judgement until I have read a couple of his works.

It's pretty good. Smith's, or to use his given name, Linebarger's work was written to a framework that he developed, all stories in a common history of the future of Mankind. I think of Tolkien and his stories as an analogy.

A couple of the stories were a little long, by comparison with the short stories. They were almost small novels. One was "The Dead Lady of Clown Town" and the other, "Under Old Earth". I could see where they fit into the fabric of his works, but I thought that they were rather wordy, even for Smith. But, they fit into the stories, and they both present themes and events important to the overarching storylines.

Interesting...certainly sounds like its worth checking out. I'll look them up.

was reading the 'Giant Size Geek' blog the other day and he highly
recommended "The Rook" by Daniel O'Malley.

So d/l'd the kindle version and started it yesterday.

That's funny I'm almost done with this one, enjoying it as well.
Funny thing is I started reading You Suck, then about 30 pages in realized it was the sequel.
So I had put it down and ran out to get BSF's

Started "Proven Guilty" (Dresden Files #8)

Revisiting Ray Harryhausen's "Film Fantasy Scrapbook" (pre Clash). Amazing book. Trying to nail down a decent facial expression for a Joe kit in the works.
