Hey folks, so I just got back from another all-dayer at the hospital. Today was the surgery, and yes he made it through. They replaced the broken leg with a titanium one. I was wrong about it going "all the way down", I misspoke the other day. That was how the Surgeon put it. "all the way down" meaning the entire femur bone. Anyways, the actual operation was a relatively quick one. Maybe three hours? I don't know that's my best guess. I was there from 1-11 so that's how long it took for me to calm Ray down before, and calm me down after. No really the post-op experience was strange. He wasn't out for more than two hrs. after before he started waking up, and yeah he was out of it, yes he's still in pain, yes there is still a mountain of stuff to deal with, BUT he lives! You people's words are a great source of encouragement. I know they're meant for him, and I relay as much as I can, but it's helping me too. I'm the one who's really reading this these days, and to be reminded that there are a lot of great people out there, who are aware of Ray, and his work, means everything to me. Hopefully, if everything goes smooth, he'll be telling you all this himself. Thanks again....now work on something cool!

Hey Tom

Thanks so much for the update – and this sounds like great news – a HUGE step in the right direction.

Well done for everything you are doing, and please continue to pass on our well-wishes and positive vibes to Ray for us. Ray – you’re gonna beat this dude!!!!!!

Please just ignore this if I’m getting too personal – I could have asked via PM but there are doubtless many of us that would really like to know . . .
  • • Does this means that the cancer originated in the femur rather than Ray’s lungs?
    • If so, and they removed the bone, do they think that has removed all of the cancer?
    • If it did originate in the lung - what are the plans (method/timing) to tackle that?
Like Trev said – share what you think is “right” to share – we don’t want to invade Ray’s privacy but ARE concerned – so again - if I am being indelicate or asking questions that you or Ray are not comfortable answering – we’ll understand - just ignore the post.

Best wishes to RAY and all of you involved in helping Ray win the battle.

Another question - is there ANYTHING ANY of us can do to help in any way?

Be good to see you back here Ray - you ARE missed Bro'

Ian/Spike.

It's lung cancer that attacked the leg bone. So, no we are not out of the weeds. The way I see this going based on all the factors is we hopefully have bought him the time he needs to be able to devise a plan of attack for the cancer. However, in the months leading up to this they wouldn't give him chemo/radiation treatment for a number of reasons. Right now it's day to day, and fingers crossed. As for help, let's just say he needs more than he'd ever ask for.

Hey.
They are meant for you as well.
You are really going above and beyond what a lot of people would.
It's great that Ray has such a good friend near enough to help.

Hey Tom, I wanna buy you your beverage of choice if we ever meet in person. Thanks for the news. I've been checking the Clubhouse more regularly lately watching for your updates. All the best to Ray.

I've been thinking about this on a regular basis. Heartbreaking, especially since this is his
favorite time of year.
I'm rootin' for ya Ray and I'm glad to know he has a friend like you Tom.
