Having a go at colored pencils. Exorcist art with a twist

Got this idea from an Artist's blog on the net. Kinda different and disturbing to some, but I thought it was rather cool. I decided to try my hand at it, so I found some of my daughter's Crayola pencils and bought a couple plywood hobby crosses at Wallyworld.
Here are my first 2 drawings from start to finish...Lots of pics..

I used one of 3Demonic's incredible lifesize Regan bust buildups as reference for the Regan and the awesome cover art of The Rue Morgue for the reference on the Pazuzu face. The Crayolas worked ok, but I was having trouble covering up the plywood with the lighter colors so I invested in a set of Prismacolors. They made a big difference, but I pretty much had to go completely over every color that I had already done on the Regan.
Live and learn...

Very cool! The one on the left is instantly recognizable as The Exorcist. But both are cool!

I concur.....brilliant.....Dracula would be great.... :)

Would it be an idea for you to maybe sculpt the features in relief and kit them for others to paint up. Your sculpting skills are great....I watched the Regan WIP's. :D

Wow, I love those. The second to last shot reminds me of the one-sheet for la cruz del diablo. They look like the faces are peering through cross cutouts in a door. Seriously awesome.

Thank you all!
I really wish I could take credit for the idea.
I like the idea of a relief sculpture of these.
And funny you should mention Dracula...as I have a few other characters in the works...:)
There is definitely a large learning curve using colored pencils...
May have to try a few drawings on paper as the wood grain makes for a bit of a challenge.

Trying a different cross and drawing the Captain Howdy face larger on it to see how it looks.
Let me know what you think.

Yep...that works as well. ......regarding the wood grain aspect, you could always paste some paper onto the surface and when dry, cut round surplus paper. :)

Your sketching is just as awesome on the second set. But I definitely prefer them on the crosses with the trefoils - just creepier that way. :D

The second take makes it look like the cross is containing the Horror since the framing is so bold. To me it makes the evil look more menacing. Great job!
