First, great capture. Is this a grab from one of the trailers?

Second, I'll be first in line on opening night to see this movie.

Third, I just can't fall in love with his face. The rest of him looks good, but the face just seems too small and out of proportion to the rest of his body.

Legendary released it on their site today. My two big complaints of this design were the head and the feet but it's still better than the 1998 Zilla design.

Looks good, but I think the head looks kinda small. Like the composition of the scene though.

So far not a big fan of this design, though looking forward to the movie and am still optimistic. Not so into the head/neck or feet either.

My next project is Roostercatzilla 4,,,,which, has a very close likeness
to this critter...Godzi is grey and dorsals with no tip frosting!

I am trying to think of a decent diorama scene....maybe destroying a bridge would be nice?
ahhh..nice for Godzilla, that is....

What is it with Americans and foreheads? The Roland/Godzilla had no forehead and this one has no forehead. The head blends in with the neck so much there really isn't a head at all.

I'll still go see it and build the model....

I wonder if TOHO will say anything about this one like they did the last.

Well, I guess we will find out when they do their next Godzilla film... if they trash this guy in it...there's your answer.

Toho has seen it and supposedly said it was fantastic. Also Toho will never do another Godzilla movie. At least not in our lifetime.

thats right. the makers of this film actually went to TOHO and asked for their approval the design before they finalized it. they didn't want to make a Godzilla that didn't meet up to their standards.
or they didn't want to make a Godzilla that they didn't approve of. more so due to the 98 Zilla im sure.. :D

over all he looks far superior to the 98 American version. but i agree with all hats been said of whats wrong with him. i think it could have been better. but im still looking forward to the film.
def film of the year for me.

i think they will. they did last time back in 98 and had several more films after that. they usually have a span in between runs of films. thats what it has been anyway in the past.
i think if this G films is successful. which im pretty sure it will be. they will start back up again making more films. it would be a shame if they didn't.

Tokusatsu is a dying subgenre of film and television. The Japanese Godzilla and Gamera series are dead, both ended with box office flops. Other giant monster movies have either been less successful or marketed to a niche group. Very young children and older die hard fans are the only ones that keep the genre alive with programming like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. Meanwhile, special effects director Koichi Kawakita has implemented school courses about the dying art of tokustatsu and how to film them-- it's basically a last ditch effort to introduce the art to another generation or at least make sure it won't simply be forgotten. I think the latter scenario is more likely.
It Toho ever produces another Godzilla movie it will be a long time from now. Right now they figure they can make money off Godzilla by letting other studios make the movies for them. They can't lose in such a position. They only have something to gain out of that-- whether or not the new movie is a flop.

man thats sad. i so hope they keep it alive and it never dies.
i think what would be really cool would be if this new G film is super successful. which it just might be. if Toho would collaborate and possible team up with legendary for the next one. if there is one. hoping there is.
im surprised that the films made by Tho are flops. even taking into consideration of the popularity here in the states its they were till flops? or just in Japan?

the term 'successful at the box office' is so nebulous a concept
