Anybody else see this flick? Not a typical horror flick, but i liked it.
Helena is here at hand;
And the youth, mistook by me,
Pleading for a lover's fee.
Shall we their fond pageant see?

How funny. I heard of this movie for the first time yesterday, and LESS THAN TWO MINUTES AGO I put in on hold with my local library. Looks interesting from what I've seen so far. Apparently good word of mouth.

I read lots of good things about this movie. I watched it, and now I want those two hours of my life back. One, maybe two creepy scenes, but otherwise, a complete waste of time.

Yeah, and the kid drove me crazy. Top reviews anywhere you read but I am not with this film. No way.

I watched it because of the word of mouth and almost turned it off in the first 15 minutes cuz the kid is so annoying, but I'm glad I didnt cuz I ended up loving it. For me it was the atmosphere of the film that I really enjoyed.
The question is not so much where we are as when we are.

This was my Halloween night movie and I loved it. There's no safety net, you never know, even at the end, if the monster of the movie is supernatural or mental illness. Quite disquieting and truly horrifying, because mental illness is real, not a fantasy creation of masterful makeup and convincing creature special effects artists.

It is sexist to say this, I know, but I think, since the writer/director is a woman, she understands feelings better, specifically, those feelings of extreme grief and loneliness that can be twisted and lead to neglect and hatred - it's not logical, it's emotional. Good acting, too; When the mother and son are screaming and yelling at each other, I had to think, there's no way they shot this in real-time with those two in the same room performing against each other. No matter how many times you tell the kid, we're all just acting and pretending, those scenes would traumatize a kid if the performances were delivered right at another person. I gave it 4/5 stars on Netflix.

Glad to see a few others liked it. Always love seeing filmmakers try something different and not the usual action packed does not mean a thing junk food that some consider fine film. :D :D

Maybe along the way to becoming a cynical, pragmatic adult, I lost belief in supernatural things, like monsters and faeries. I can still appreciate the art in creating those things, and understand the allegories they represent, maybe that's why I liked The Babadook. You could take it literally, as presented, that a supernatural monster exists, or my preference, think that it is a shared fantasy between a child and mother/wife driven mad by loneliness, grief, and the strange behaviors and beliefs of her weird little kid.
