FACEBOOK AND GROUPS

#1 Post by raydrz »

THERE'S GOTTA BE A BETTER WAY DEPARTMENT: when i post i just post to my timeline...in a few rare instances, a couple 'groups'...

daily, i see "MISTER X" post the same things 4-5 consecutive posts...1. their personal timeline 2. Kaiju Model group 3. jesse garcia's group 4. paul gill's group 5. john diaz's group

is this just the nature of the beast???

enlighten me

They are spamming - physically copying and pasting to every group they belong to so that they can get maximum attention and kudos.

I shut down my personal Bookface account. The Filmy's Girls page is still up, as well as my company page, but everything else is goneski. Too many lunatics, memes, political bullsh!t, haters, and "oh my God, I am SO offended by (fill in the blank). ::rolleyes::

Half the reason I keep my account going is the memes (and cat videos :D )
And most of the people on my friends list mock those 'offended' types.
Since I hate talking on phones, and most people I know are scattered all over the place, FB is the easiest way for me to stay in contact. Especially with my kids.

And yeah, the group spamming can be annoying. The way I avoid it, is to stay out of most of the groups. 90% of my modeling conversations happen here or on HobbyTalk.
FB is for actual socializing and I do very little hobby type stuff on it.

I'm all for Bookface. I get it, I got it, and now I'm done with it. Its none of my business if someone likes it, and I don't judge those who choose to consume it.

It comes with the territory of FB.
That's why forums like the CH are in my opinion very important.
I try and keep my FB forum clean and proper but since I don't go to many other groups I don't see the redundancy all the time.

personally I agree with all Marc has said... on a personal level yes..

but... its also one hell of a way to sell... market and find out about our genre.... as in reference to kits and such.

ive found about sculpts and kits I would have never even come close to in other places..

facebook does has it perks.. if one chooses to use it like that.

...and of this, there can be no doubt...

as for sales, i'd imagine people encounter asshats at an exponential rate...people that just don't "get it"...compared to here for example...

I don't know about hobby sales, or producer sales on FB.
I can speak from experience about trying to sell household stuff locally on FB.
[shudder] it wasn't pleasant.
Imagine all the idiots on ebay, without even the pretext of there being actual rules to follow.
A massive waste of time, lots of aggravation, all for a couple of sales at cut-rate pricing over a period of about 4 months. I've basically given up on trying to clear out the last few pieces from my mothers estate at this point.

On a happier note though, while doing that, I did find a few sweet deals on things to buy for myself.

If you unfollow certain people their posts will not show up in your feed. You can also limit what you see in groups by choosing the many options under "Notifications."

That should help cut down on the multiple listings of the same posts.

John let me clarify something, resin maniacs is not my group it belongs to Norbert Ossner who asked me to help him. I have always tried to help my friends, sometimes you find out the hard way who they really are. facebook is like watching tv with commercials you don't want to watch. like Sue mentioned you can unfollow people without unfriending them if you don't want to see the posts.

There are also tools like 'F.B. Purity', which help filter out lots of the drama and stupid. You can check categories or add keywords of subjects you don't want on your timeline. (desktop browsers only)

Too be honest... I have not had one bad selling experience on Facebook. Way more on eBay, and even here.
