How to create "Drool"?
I want to create "drool" in the mouth of a werewolf, what are some of the techniques you use to create this? This is going to be on a very large scale werewolf and I really think it needs to have it!

Re: How to create "Drool"
Hope this helps did the drool on the Spinosaurus of mine while back.I took clear styrene and heated over stove eye and stretched to the desired length and glossed over with 5 minute Clear Apoxie that you get at the Autoparts store.tidroplane wrote:I want to create "drool" in the mouth of a werewolf, what are some of the techniques you use to create this? Travelers to unknown regions would be well-advised to take along the family dog. He could just save you from entering the wrong gate.

I've never had good luck with heating a sprue over a stove... For me, the best has been gluing fishing line or thread from either letting it hang from mouth or chin or connect from top of mouth to another section (ie..from top tooth to bottom tooth). After the fishing line or thread has dried then go over the entire line with five minute epoxy.
I know that when Saul painted his large scale howling bust he used thread, then 5 min epoxy...results are perfect:

On 1/6 scale kits I've taken a piece of 10# test fishing line put some super glue on it to where it beads up and the hit it with kicker.

Clear styrene heated with a heat gun has given me some nice drool over the years.

Re: How to create "Drool"?
I sorta mix two previous suggestions - I take the really thin clear rod and dip it a few times in epoxy until it forms the droplet at the end. Then glue the drool in place with more of the epoxy

Re: How to create "Drool"?
Little out of left field here, but I've NEVER had good experience with epoxy or the clear rod/sprue technique, so I looked for alternatives for my Hellbreed kit I'm finished up, and I'm blown away by the results.
I went to Wal-Mart and got the thinnest fishing line I could find, and when it came time to start adding strings of drool, I used this stuff by Golden labeled "Heavy Gel (Gloss)" to attach it. It's used to add body and thickness to acrylic paints when doing traditional art, but I've found it works for a ton of different applications. I just used a brush, and put a little bit of the gunk where I wanted a string of drool to start, and basically "pulled" the fishing line through it to get the effect I wanted. It's pretty thick and holds the line well, but you'll wanna watch it for a little bit and pull it in the direction you want it to go, if that makes sense? Attach the other end of the line where you want and BOOM! A string of drool.
You don't have to worry about making it perfect to start cuz you can go back over it with more of the gel, adding layers to get the effect you want. You can tell I added it on pretty thick in places. I tried to include a pic to show how it looks. The gel is acrylic based, like I said, so you don't have to worry about cleanup or ruining brushes or the working time of epoxies, no heating sprues... I also seem to get way less air bubbles with this technique than with epoxies, and it seems to dry a bit clearer. Whatever works, though. Folks get great results with all kinds of stuff!

Also, did not notice the "very large scale" bit, but I still think the technique would work on a larger scale.

Re: How to create "Drool"?
One alternative to fishing line I've seen was from Jordu Schell. He used a product called Fun Fur, which I assume is just a bulk faux-fur product. He had some white fur, and would pull a single strand of hair and use that as his line to apply epoxy to.
