Thanks. It's getting there.
The object is to make it as easy as possible, so I will actually use the airbrush.
Don't want to give myself any excuses to not paint (I already have enough of those)

Well, it's been a couple weeks. I kind of shifted gears and went back to putting shelves in my display room.

Working my way down the walls

Image

Image

Would have been done sooner, but the wife decided that since I was making shelves for myself, she wanted some for the kitchen too.

Image

So, that added a few days to the project. A run to the lumber yard after work. A couple days of sanding and polyurethaning. Half a day to install.

Well, now I got some more boxes emptied out, and more of my kits out and on display. Not their permanent homes for the most part. But now that they are out, I can get some measurements and figure out shelf layouts and sizes.

This is the only shelf that has the kits that are going to live there on it. This one is designed to display all my Monsters Of The Movies kits. With their boxes behind them.

Well, I finally got the rest of the basement cleaned up.
(I posted about cleaning up my modeling workbench before leaving for WF here
viewtopic.php?f=39&t=113344&start=60#p1446950 )

My real workbench was a disaster from working on projects, but not taking the time to put tools and materials away.
Image

I even organized all my paintbrushes
Not shown are all my sable brushes which are in a special holder, so I don't damage them, or use them when I don't need them.
And my drybrushes are in another container stored under my bench.
Image

And finally, the spray-table and spray-paint shelf.
Those were both disasters as well. Paints, thinners, supplies, cans of paint, scattered everywhere.

Image

In the process I went through all my tools and materials and reorganized them.
Throwing out things that were no longer needed. Like old brushes, almost empty containers of putty, dried up tubes of super glue, old instruction sheets, and packaging for some of the supplies.

Took me several hours, but now I am ready to start working on kits again!

Cool.

Every time I see that ashtray I find myself shaking my head in standard "disappointed police officer" fashion. It wouldn't be so bad, but I was never a policeman - well, except for that early 80's adult-oriented movie that wasn't my fault (I needed the money).

All you need now is the pool table and a bar and you're good-to-go! (that was scene 2).

As much as I am itching to paint some kits, I need some place to put them when they are done.
Hopefully by the end of the weekend, this wall will be much fuller.

I stopped at Lowes today and dropped too much money on shelf type stuff.
Hopefully with the long weekend I will get the 4 shelves installed on this wall, and get a jump on the shelf for my Graveyard Scenes on the opposite wall.

Shelves are up!

Image

Took me all day. Not so much the actual installation, it was everything else.
I had to dig out all my finished kits to determine how far apart to make the shelves.
That meant taking the time to fix things that were broken and glue parts back on.

Image

Now I will start work on the custom shelves that will go on either side of these shelves.
Small narrow ones like on the left, will be mounted to the wall on either side of these deep ones. That should get all the small kits out of the way, and leave the large shelves for bigger kits.

Speaking of digging stuff out, I still have a few kits left to find. Most of my trophys. As well as the stack of House of Mystery comics I want to put on the table with the rest of my reading collection.

Image

I did get all my Maiden CDs / DVDs put away.

    • 1) Nice job with the shelves - and the kits . . . that Molson bottle looks almost lifelike! (should have been a decent beer though - not that Canadian swill !)

Senjutsu is already in that pic, though you probably can't read it.
Those 2 tall, upright ones just under the head on the boxset, are Book Of Souls, and Senjutsu.

Well, I am getting ready to head back up and dig through the closet to find the stuff I could not locate yesterday.

I don't have any area to display vinyl. If I did, I would display my LAD first, then my Powerslave picture disc, then my other picture discs, then my singles, then the classic albums.
I don't have any vinyl that is less than 30 years old, except for some pressed bootlegs that were given to me.
Eventually I will sell that off, like I did my cassette collection.

I took a better pic of the cd collection though.

Image

And I found most of my missing kits. Still looking for one or two.

Well, I was thinking I would have another update soon, but realized today it is going to be a while.
I could finish off the small shelf unit to go between the new shelves and the old shelves rather quickly. They are built and just need putty, final sand, primer, and paint.
But I am also working on 5 other shelves, and I should finish getting all those cut and built so I can prime and paint all of them at the same time. It would make the most sense.
That also means that none of them will be ready for install in the near future though.
Because I also forgot that I am going to be busy for the next 6 weekends. So that time I would have had for projects doesn't exist. So the time I had for building shelves is going to diminish drastically, as I have other projects outside, that really need to be taken care of.

All this, is a long way of saying, you probably won't see any updates on this front for several weeks at best. Realistically probably not until September / October.

Sounds like some of the Project Managers I've dealt with over the years :)

We'll be here with suitably witty/caustic comments when you have the time to get back to it :thumb2:

Yeah, now that I have been playing with my kits, I am really itching to do more.
Bur I really need to finish my upstairs rewire so I can insulate the attic before we get cold weather again.
I also need to demolish my garage and build a shed. I was hoping to hire someone to do the demo for me, but I can't seem to get anyone to return calls or messages.
Seems everyone is already booked out for a couple months and aren't interested in finding any new customers.
Probably doesn't help that the biggest contractor in the county is sitting in federal jail for money laundering, arson, and trying to hire a hit man.

I was pretty on the money with this one.
Just installed 6 new shelves in my display room today.
I still have to wait for them to cure before I put anything on them though. Which works out. Next weekend is slated for doing all my Halloween decorations, and the following weekend I will be out of town. So, 3 weeks from now I should have pics of some stuff on these shelves.

Image

This one is slated for my Graveyard Scenes kits. And my Monster Scenes store display (which is why it is so tall)

Image

This is the next one for my Prehistoric Scenes. The plan for now is to move all the stuff on the shelf above down, so you can actually see it. Then use that shelf for a lot of the oddball stuff I have for the collection

Image

Image

The two on either side of the larger shelves here are slated more of my smaller kits. A lot of the ones cluttering up the bigger shelves, as well as others I haven't pulled out of storage yet.

Image

And these two shelves are for displaying my contest awards. I earned them, might as well display them proudly.
