Thanks! I KNEW there was a reason I kept those "Cadillacs & Dinosaurs" toys after my son lost interest in them almost 20 years ago!

Here's a little custom I just did over a day off. A PNSO Triceratops customized into a "Duranteceratops" (Based on a HUGE skull in a private collection that appears to be of a very, very old Triceratops Prorsus with an enormous 'proboscis" ... paint job is based on the late Dan Lorusso's paint up of his Battat Triceratops sculpt that I have a soft spot in my heart for ...

Very cool!
I never heard of that skull, and it certainly looks awesome.
Terrific job on the customization and paint job. I certainly remember the Battat toy from Dan. And as a sidebar I used to talk to Dan quite often. Well, I would say talked, he would prolly say *annoyed* as when I "discovered" the "new" resin dinosaurs in the mid 90's I was always contacting him with questions and orders. ;) haha

Great story Kev. I exchanged a few emails with him in the early 2000s. Its a shame that Battat didn't follow through to release all of his new sculpts and repaints after the brief 2014-15 release of his new pieces.

Very impressive. Rich colors that really capture the magnificence of this truly awesome ceratopsian. What a monster!

Also, speaking with Dan was always a most enjoyable mini dino seminar.

Wasn't happy with my recent "Duranteceratops" custom - the huge nose horn just didn't look right - probably because the sculpt is a T. Horridus while the weird skull is pretty clearly a T. Prorsus with a shorter frill and thicker, differently angled horns ...

So I repainted it (well the horns anyway) and gave the whole thing it a black oil wash on top of the previous orange-ish oil wash. Made the colors a bit more subdued.

I think it looks much better. Started with a Battat-like paint job, then elaborated on it as I went along, adding detail. Very pleasantly surprised by the outcome. My first real "patterned" dino paint up.

The bashes are finally starting again - after a 2-year hiatus. Now that we are in our new digs in South Texas, I am slowly starting up again.

Back to the Torosaurus kitbash. I took the extra pair of horns from David Silva's 1/18 Beast of the Mesozoic Triceratops figure and am grafting them onto this Torosaurus 'bash ... stay tuned ... I've struck on a paint scheme, too ...

Finally back to this 'bash, started in 2014, continued a couple of years back before our move to TX.

Just inserted a rod into the right leg, then inserted it into a leftover base that I glued to a wood plaque.

Now to choose a paint scheme ... stay tuned folks ... :drool2:

The Torosaurus custom I started on a couple of years ago up-thread is next on the painting menu - the horns have been reshaped to my liking using a hair dryer, pressure and dipping into ice water. These are an extra set of horns that came with David Silva's Beasts of the Mesozoic Triceratops - I re-shaped them into the Torosaurus sloped curve, flattened the nose horn with pliers, and now this 'bash is finally complete! Paint job idea is also below. Plan to start on it this week. Stay tuned!

Yes they do! SOMETHING wasn't right about them, which kept me from moving on with the bash for a longish time ... then I looked at a few Torosaur skulls and it hit me ... then the horn reshaping was literally a breeze - *DOH*!!! :rolf:

Major progress on the basic Torosaurus colors tonight! All that's left is basically detailing (eyes, mouth, horns, bony knobs, claws, etc), and then the "Monster Jones" Oil Wash. Stay tuned! :drool2:

That’s coming along nicely!
That knobby frill and skin looks like a great opportunity for some serious dry brushing
