Not feeling the painting bug at all ... so decided to do yet another kitbash (I'll get backed up in the painting dept again, then when I "feel it" I'll do them all one after the other) ... anyhow ... this is a BIG project ...

20 Years in the making (that is how long I have contemplated this kitbashing possibility) ... I've built at least 4 of these kits before, but none in about 16 years ... the Horizon vinyl JP T-Rex ... but instead of just reposing it like I did many times before, I will now thoroughly "accurize it" by replacing the "chicken legs" with properly MASSIVE and WIDE TRex legs, deepen the torso, "lip" the jaws, and replace the ridiculous kit arms with some very accurate smaller arms I kept for this purpose ... for about 11 years ... (see I told you this kitbashing idea was long on the making, didn't I?

Today the beginning .... there will be PLENTY of metal rods and Quickplastik putty involved, for this guy will stand nicely in the end and not sag - EVER (I HAVE learned SOMETHING over these past 21 years of doing these!!! :rolf: ) Now the pics please ... the kit was built up by someone else in Japan, not well I might add, and I bought it for about $100 in 2016 on yahoo.jp ...

The first photo shows the frontal view difference between the wider "accurized" leg, and the other "chicken leg" of the original kit ...

Image

Reverse angle shot shows the method - heat vinyl, split leg and toes (insert wood dowels into toes to keep em wide) ... standing bronze rods connected to the top of the back and exiting out the bottom of the feet will be added eventually, along with putty (which will also be used to "seal" the cut sections ...

Image

Now both of the legs have received the "preliminary preparatory accurization" treatment - note how nice and WIDE both the legs and toes now are ... :alcoholic:

Image

Next photo shows the preparation for "deepening" & "dropping down" the torso. The gap will be eventually filled with putty and texturized ...

Image

Finally for today, a look at the "accurized" (I'm getting to really like that term you know \:D/ arms - actually arms from a Giganotosaurus model - note that I "sliced" off the third finger on each hand (see the loose fingers on the bench? :lol2: )

Nice work on this T-Rex, my favorite dinosaur.
Masterful work on the legs and feet, the arms, and the thicker body.
I’m sure this is going to look great when you’re done.

Finally some more progress to report .... been very busy with life, little to no time for modeling ... puttied the interior of the "gap" that I opened in order to give the torso some more depth ... this is the "foundation" layer. Now that its hard the model is sturdy enough so that I can putty over it and blend/texture stamp the expanded torso ...

Sharper claws have been glued onto the new arms as well ...

Edit: Deleted the opening sentences of this post - meant as a joke it actually sounded so confusing that even I wondered how it might be read. :rolf: So let's try again :bday:

Are you guys trying to tell me something about my painting? :rolf: [Edit: That was a JOKE, of course. I think some newer member of the forum might misconstrue the back and forth between some of us who have been here a while. Have no worry - that's not what this is about. ] (No worries, I plan to ask my pal Bill Monster Jones to paint these last 2 dino-bashes for me when I finish them - I'm no fool). :drool2: [Edit: I actually already asked Bill some time ago to paint these because: a. I don't have time and b. I love his work and want to see a few more of his paint ups grace my 'bashes].

Anyhow .... back to this TRex ... it was originally built up (BADLY I might add) by a guy in Japan and was already in pretty bad shape and missing one toe when I got it "for a song" some years back. The new arms are from a toy figure I've been keeping for just such an occassion, with the claws from the original horizon arms glued onto the fingers. I will sculpt the missing big toe from putty.

Right now I am engineering the "accurization of the mouth." I was going to sculpt "lips" on with putty, but on second thought, given the softeness of the Horizon kit vinyl, I have decided to just recess the teeth inside the jaws a little more, and make the lower jaw wider (I will putty the gap between the "lips" and teeth).

That will serve the same purpose and be easier to pull off to boot. :D

Lemme guess… ya built a too accurate replica of the Area 51 UFO. Soon after, the black hats got wind of it after your model was spotted buzz bombing the neighborhood dogs. Now you live in fear of discovery but you’ll never give up.
After all, the truth is out there… at least… we hope it is.
