Want-A-Fest!

#1 Post by tay666 »

The Want-A-Fest on-line event will start on Thursday May 28 and will run through Monday June 1. Join us and spread the word. More details coming soon.

For most of the last 30 years, WonderFest has been a significant event for the model-building hobby. So, a passionate collaborative of model kit producers, hobby manufacturers, dealers, retailers, sculptors, molding and casting companies, social media groups, video producers, commission painters, hobbyists and fans of the stuff that inspires our hobby are working together to create an online model hobby event during what would have been WonderFest weekend..

We even have organizers of other hobby events joining this effort. How cool is that??!!

We are calling this event “Want-A-Fest”. Why? Because we all “want a fest” and, since we can’t have a huge, in-person social gathering next month, let’s do the next best thing.

Want-A-Fest will be held during what would have been WonderFest weekend and beginning on Thursday May 28th.
The purpose of the event is to help promote the model kit-building hobby, to provide a hobby geekery outlet for those of us shut out and shut in by the pandemic, and to show how cool this hobby community is. Last but not least, this event will show support for the organizers of WonderFest, a convention that has been a mainstay of the hobby since 1990.

We are inviting you to help make Want-A-Fest weekend an entertaining, online community-building event that will strengthen and expand individual social networks, business networks, and hobby networks. And while we are doing all that cool, fun, constructive stuff, let’s have some competition!

Want-A-Fest will feature a model contest that will also be held during what would have been WonderFest weekend. The deadline for the model contest registration will be 6pm PST on Wednesday May 27. Contest details will be fleshed out and posted in the next few days. The cost to enter will be $10 for your first entry and $5 for each additional entry. Anything that anyone might enter in the contest will fit into one of four (for the sake of simplicity) categories: Figures, Dioramas, Busts and Hardware. Prizes being donated by producers, retailers, manufacturers, and suppliers will go to contest award winners.

100% OF CONTEST ENTRY FEES GO TO WONDERFEST.

A number of other items are being donated for a raffle during the weekend; those details, too, will be fleshed out in the coming weeks.

100% OF THE RAFFLE PROCEEDS GO TO WONDERFEST

That is the meat and potatoes of what is being organized (copied from their page)

Image links to the Facebook page for this event.

Now I know, several of our members don't do FB, and I understand that.
But I think the idea behind this, and the way different parts of the modeling community are coming together for it, are great. That is why I am sharing the information here. And I am trying to come up with ideas to do at least a few things to include non-facebook member in the fun.
Weather that will be sharing information and images here from the event.
Or coming up with some area here for members that are participating to also share their stuff here for all to see.
Not sure as things are still evolving. But would love to hear thoughts and/or ideas.

Realized I never posted a link the the Want-A-Fest FB group.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/245813096539829

And for those not on FB, this is the first thing I have seen scheduled besides the contest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BehP6PsFks

A podcast / livestream. So all should be able to partake of this.
And I am sure there will be more being announced soon.

Want-A-Fest is on now

#11 Post by derekc62 »

I know many of you steer clear of Facebook, but in with the postponement of Wonderfest some very dedicated individuals have stepped up to create Want-A-Fest (because we want a fest!).

There's an Artists' Alley, Vendor Hall and Model Contest with approximately 600 entrants and more than 1400 photos (to be posted very soon)

I encourage you all to dip your toes into FB if only to support the hobby and see the on-line seminars (three scheduled so far) and hundreds of photos of kits from like-minded folks.

Here's the main page ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/245813096539829/ ) Once you're there click on "Events" on the left of the screen to find the three events: Contest, Vendor Hall and Artists Alley. Make sure to click on 'all posts' to see all the posts :)

Can't wait to see the contest entries be revealed. I entered 14 of my models/dioramas that I made over the years into the contest to help support Wonderfest (which I will most likely never have the opportunity to go to in person). So that was my way of (FINALLY!) participating.
