Diablo3 Barbarian

#1 Post by sivousplay »

This next piece is the largest kit I've ever painted; it is 1/4 scale and more than 2 ft wide, 2ft deep, and about 3 ft tall. In total, it probably weighs more than 60 lbs. The sculpt is based on concept art from the video game Diablo 3 and depicts the barbarian character defeating the foe for which the game is named, Diablo. It was sculpted by the amazing Franco Carlesimo (you need to check out his work) and was a very limited edition run. Most of the pieces produced were pre-paints and only very few kits were produced. In total, I spent more than 200 hours building and painting this massive piece. You will notice pictures of two different weapons ... the kit came with magnets to allow the weapons to be swapped. As always, it was entirely hand-painted using acrylics and inks ... I think my forearms have grown a size while painting him. It's SO huge, that he was difficult to light and to arrange for pictures but I've hopefully captured plenty of interesting angles.

If you'd like to see more pictures, please visit my web site at:http://sivousplay.net/html/barbarian.html

I hope you like this piece. I feel like it's one of my best.

Cheers,
jim

An amazing work of art! And to think you hand painted this beast of a kit wow.

You’ve posted several pieces of stunning work as of late. Don’t know where you find the time to complete all of these.

Thanks to everyone for their kind words! This was a really fun project ... more surface area than I'd ever tried to cover in a single project. I hope it shows that you can paint anything, any size, with handbrushing. An airbrush is not required to create cool pieces. Brushes are just tools and as long as you have fun and enjoy the process, you can do anything!!

Cheers,
jim

WOW!!! A spectacular piece. Gorgeous flesh tones and the tattoo and cuts are incredible. The monster is very impressive indeed. Fantastic paint-up.
