N.R.A. 2021?...(unofficially)
Contacted Tom G. and he said, unfortunately, there WILL NOT be a 2021 edition of the after-hours N.R.A. gathering this year. I guessing that a very small room with lots of people jammed in close quarters isn't the best thing to try to do this year. Hopefully we'll get back to it in 2022. Still looking forward to the rest of the show though.
Cheers

Re: N.R.A. 2021?...nixed
Last I knew some people were still bringing some things to show, but there wasn't going to be any type of contest. So, should still swing by and see what's up.

Re: N.R.A. 2021?...nixed
I'm not privy to all the details regarding what & why, but from what little I do know of it, the individuals who took it over for the past couple years since Tom G. has been unable to come to WF, had some type of personal issue going on which precluded their WF attendance, and apparently it was kind of a last minute notification to the rest of us, so there was no time for anyone else to organize the categories and awards.
That being said; the NRA would not die, and those of us who were planning on it all met in the usual spot and displayed what we'd built and brought, and just hung out, had a little Panther Potion, and looked at everyone else's work and had a good time.
At the end of the night; a straw poll was held for the one favorite piece; all attendees (both builders and observers) voted and put their vote on a paper ballot in Crazy Joe's hat, and after the votes were tallied Annya's "Barbarella" received the most votes...her winning entry gives her "bragging rights" until next year when (I assume) someone else will step up and have more time to organize the event.
The general consensus was that the participation and strength of entries was probably some of the best in recent years.

Glad to hear you all soldiered on and held an unofficial NRA. Do you happen to know if anyone plans on posting any pics from the event?

I took some pics of it - still have to download them. I don't think I can show them here and dont have them loaded to a link to go to.

I'm sad I missed it
We got there like 10 minutes after the room cleared out.

If it's the Crazy Joe piece he redid her entire skin surface as the original piece only had patches of scales.Stormheart wrote:Looks like a great show. Man the skin/scale detail on that Medusa is amazing!
A vast improvement over the original piece, despite covering the saucy bits.
He also redid the compound bow into a much more realistic looking armament.
Man lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be reality.

Actually, there was another Medusa, ALSO by Marcus Deleo, that was in progress, also by me where I used the technique to "scale" the smoothly sculpted snakes on the big one's head to "scale" the skin on the smaller 1/6th piece. It's another buildup that's taking it's time to take form, as I have so many other things I have to get done first. All the "me" stuff, sadly, has to get to the back of the line...

That's a nice bunch of kits in the photo album. Congrats to the popular vote winner Annya Shetinina for her Barbarela.
This was NRA Lite. Hopefully next year, there will be the complete program NRA with the regular and master class divisions and the sponsored awards.
Yes, some personal/family issues for myself and second in command prevented attendance this year and in 2019. I won't go into those here. At least for me, things will be resolved one way or another for next year. At least that's the plan. But who knows?
Thanks to those who attended for keeping the spirit alive.

The N.R.A. LIVES - I'm officially running the event for the foreseeable future - I sure hope we continue to see the increasing participation we've seen in the past, and I'm committed, for now, to sponsoring two major awards for the show. See ya next week!!!
