Working bases, werewolves , finished 2023-06-03

#1 Post by barad_dur »

Page 1: created water basin bases for shark hunter kits, modified demon creature kitbash
Page 2: created cemetery base for werewolf kit
Page 3: repositioning arms for lunging werewolf kitbash ; started repainting demon creature , painting second werewolf base, coloring realistic water to try and crate growing lava flows
Page 4: continuing experimenting with lava effect for demon base, started repainting werewolves
Page 4; finished threatening werewolf
page 4; started modifying a temple base to use with my 2 Minotaur kitbashes
Page 5; refining the howling werewolf before repainting
Page 5; finished refining the werewolf; tried purple base color but did not work
Page 5; started painting grey and black scheme
Page 6; went back to a brown color scheme for the howling werewolf , finished the werewolves

Working on bases for some of my kits, since I plan to take some kits to wondefest this year.

Black base is a Steve West celllar cast base. Fantastic detail.

The lava base and green base are modified cemetery bases from J.L. Crinon.

I plan to fill in the green base basin with woodland scenics realistic water (first time trying water effect).

Thanks!

I rarely put much or even any effort into bases, so this is a learning process.

I added the first layer of water. Takes 24 hours to clear.
Plan to make the water deeper and overflow the central basin on some of the edges.

I had to modify the lava base to level, make room and have feet imprints for the demon creature.
Will have to pretty much repaint the whole lava base; which is fine as I learned a bit from first attempt.

I am going to repaint the eyes on some of these bashes to try and make them much better.
Also making the eyes a little bigger and more defined than the original kits to make painting easier (hopefully)

Excellent choices all around. Each base really compliments each figure, which is hard to do as the figures themselves are so awesome.

Thank you !

I like the way the first water base is for going for the shark hunter creature, so I am working another water base for my kit-bashed version of the shark hunter creature.

Using another heavily modified cemetery base from JL Crinon.

Continuing to work water base for green shark hunter

While working the base for the demon creature , I decided to rework top of the head and slim down the chest.
Image

Image

Image

Of course all that cutting and handling ruined the paint , so going to repaint it .
But the chest and head look much better, so well worth the effort

Started adding the water
It takes 24 hours for water effect to clear .
It will take 3 or 4 rounds of slowly adding the water to fill the basin.
directions indicate to add only about 1/8 of an inch deep each round.

Thanks guys !

Note to self - before pouring in the realistic water, do a test run with cheap tap water first !

Found out the hard way that there was a small gap/hole in the green creature base and a lot of the realistic water leaked out overnight and made a bit of a mess.
But no worries, I found and patched the hole and started refilling the basin.

I still have to work the eyes in the gorn creature.

Thanks !

I have to admit, putting some effort into creating a nice base really does enhance the figure.

I appreciate all of you who are following this thread and for the positive feedback.

I may use another cellar cast alien terrain base with ACE Ymir kit.
I will probably make the base a bit bigger.
