Janus' Hunchback of Notre Dame WIP

#1 Post by derekc62 »

Getting started on a classic Jeff Yagher creation: The Hunchback of Notre Dame wall hanger.

Bought this recently from Janus' founder and have been working on it bit-by-bit for about a week: trimming, filling, doing the sub-assemblies, priming and now painting.

Still have a lot to do and enjoying the research into the clothing and the gargoyles of Notre Dame.

Looking forward to this one. I always liked the 'wall hanger' bit.

Getting my leather elements done - belt and boots now finished (still have to do the laces).

Still have to paint the shirt, weather the pants and then deal with the gargoyle/wall...

I missed this thread. Your painting and weathering skills are fantastic - that closeup of the head blew me away - especially his eye and mouth.

That stone work looks great.

Thanks Tim.

Here's a shot of Notre Dame that I used for reference:

Crazy! Phenomenal paint up on the gargoyles. I presume you used an airbrush? (Cause I can't fathom how to get that effect with a brush  )

Yes, I spattered my charcoal color in the appropriate places and used a wash of an earth color over much of the gargoyle, ledge and wall.

FYI, I kept the air brush pressure up at around 25psi and then choked off the air supply on my Iwata. It has a built-in air-flow regulator located just under the color cup.

A couple of minor adjustments gave me the spatter I wanted - the paint just came spitting out of the brush in a constant flow and I was able to move it around where ever I wanted to add more grim/mold/filth :)
