Getting started.

Seams have been sanded and filled.

Primed in grey except for Wednesday's face which was primed in white.

Base coat of Virgin Flesh for Wednesday, and Bronze Flesh for Thing.

First round of washes has been done.

You'll see the three colors I always use. The order, however, varies.

For Wednesday, it was blue, yellow and then a spattered spray of little red dots.

For Thing, it was yellow, red and blue to give a deader look to the flesh. I find blue as the last wash deadens the overall look. If you're able to zoom in or enlarge the image you may see what I mean.

Loving it thus far! I'll be watching this to see the outcome.

Moved on to Thing to get him finished.

After my washes I spattered a flesh wash all over, concentrating on the knuckles to redden them a bit.

I also lightened the fingers slightly between the knuckle joints.

The nails got a purplish treatment and then I added some lighter tones for the lunula (the half moons at the base of the nails) and the nail edges, dry brushing the color back toward the finger to give some gradation of color.

The nails were rimmed with the flesh wash.

The scars were done in a transparent brown followed by a scar red and the stiches were done in a dark brown. The stiches at the wrist were rimmed with scar red.

The last two photos are my references.

First, thank you all for the compliments.

Second, now that Thing is a... well, thing of the past it's back to Wednesday (which sounds odd as I write this on a Tuesday... but I digress...).

I blocked in the hair using a Minitaire paint called Raven Black. It's not the blackest black I have but it's pretty close to a pure black. To soften it slightly I dry brushed some of the highlighted areas on the bangs, sides of the head and the pigtails with a royal blue. Against the black it's a very subtle highlight but in person it adds a little extra dimension to the hair.

Image

I then decided to tackle the eyes and mouth. The lips were base coated with a plum color and then a lighter shade of purple went over that leaving just an outline of the dark plum at the edges of the lips. A further highlight of an even lighter purple was lightly brushed over top.

Image

The eyes are sculpted on the kit and I toyed with sanding them down so I could reposition the glance to be slightly to the left but ultimately I was just too lazy and painted them in place.

The sclera of the eyes were painted with a Minitaire paint called Ancient Bone. It's a creamy off white and is my go-to color for eyes. The irises started off with a dark brown. Then a lighter brown from Minitaire called Bark went on top for main iris color. Some dark brown striations were painted in and then the pupils placed.

I mixed up a pinkish color for the insides of the upper and lower eyelids and then brushed in some lashes with a fine-tipped brush.

I then masked off the head with Silly Putty so I could spray a Garage Kit Colors Off White for the blouse (to bad Jesse's GK Colors is no more :x ) and then used a pure flat back for the school tie. In my reference shots (see last photo below) I noticed there's a white stripe woven into the tie and there's even a hint of blue between the white swirls. I painted in a couple of white stripes and called it a night. I'll likely add the blue in my next painting session.

it's amazing to me how popular Wednesday has been on the 3D
scene!

Last night I was seeing alot of Grogu files and thought I should start
a page... only to realize, DAMN! there's ALOT of Grogu kits!!! Alot
like Wednesday exploded!

Man, I'd go freaking broke if I had a 3d printer!! More sh*t to put on
my unfinished projects shelf!! :)

Great thread. So informative to get this kind of a tutorial from someone who obviously is a master figure modeler. Thank you!

Same reason I won't get a printer.
I know me. I'd be collecting files left and right and printing tons of stuff. All that printing time would cut into my already limited painting time. So I would have more stuff, and less time to finish any of it.

Thanks again for the words of encouragement :)

My latest update is of a more-or-less completed bust - not the whole kit mind you, just the Wednesday bust itself.

Masking the head with silly putty I sprayed the blouse with a GKUS Off White and then turned to the uniform.

After playing around with some Garage Kit US colors I finally came up with a blue/grey I liked for the school uniform.

I used a cool grey, a Frost Blue to knock it back slightly and then a dab of a denim blue and sprayed the entire uniform.

Alone, it looks like a powder blue, but against the next set of stripes it's a cool grey and comes close to my reference photos.

Image

The black stripes were painted by hand using a flat black.

After some touch ups I mixed up a dark purple chalk pastel color and brushed it in as a transition color between the black and grey stripes.

The sweater was done with a charred stone color from Minitaire and the school crest was done with a flat white

Image

Next up is the base resembling the Nevermore Academy roof and the stained glass window.... The end is in sight :)
