"Do you like our owl?"

#1 Post by sparkvark007 »

Image Image

Memorable first lines spoken by Sean Young as Rachael in 1982’s sci-fi flic, “Blade Runner” (one of my all time favorite movies :thumb2: ). 1/6 scale 3D print by fellow Clubhouse member Monomaster2, (THANKS Bro!). A flawless 3D render by Saturn Studio.

Image

I only added separate buttons to finish off the multi-layer paint job that I applied to get a look that matched the black suit fabric seen in the movie. While the kit pose is not screen accurate, (Rachel was sitting behind a table when she smokes her cigarette), I still think this kit rendering nails the character perfectly.

Image

My original plan for this build was to have her placed in front of massive columns like those seen in the Tyrell Corporate office, but I decided that the size of that composition leaned towards overkill at this scale. So I decided to keep it simple.

Image

Skin is dry pastels over airbrushed tones. I used black acrylic sheet, PVC, balsa foam, decorative vinyl and ceramic wall laminates, and sign vinyl to make the base. The owl is a reworked vinyl miniature mounted on polished brass rods. I tried to recreate the look and feel of the movie scene’s dramatic lighting in these photos.

Image

Based on the ever growing availability of these near photorealistic 3D printed kits, this is just the first of several Blade Runner dioramas I have planned. One of the next ones is gonna be a lot more elaborate and detailed. But, we’ll see how that goes .

As always, thanks for look’n.
Cheers! 8)

Sensational! I fantastic likeness.

Gorgeous flesh tones and her make-up is fabulous. I like the smoke effect.

The base and plinth are impressive and the owl is wonderful - gorgeous colours.

A magnificent paint-up. Well done!

Outstanding use of light to catch the mood of the movie. Everything about it screams PROFESSIONAL artistry.
One question, however, In using blowups for the Gallery (and DON"T take this as a criticism) was the leg hair stubble intentional ? Or is it a result of the lighting ? Hey, I'm not judging, I hear it is fashionable in parts of Europe.
On a more practical note, does Rich Hernandez have a company I can credit in the Gallery or is it Saturn Studio ? Who do you credit the sculpt ?

Great work, sparkvark007, both paint and base concept. Good call on keeping the base smaller, it looks well suited to the kit.

Spock ...
:lol2: No, no man... :lol2:
That's just the way it came out of the airbrush. It was a lot heavier than I intended #-o. But with it being a couple of days before the contest, I wasn't gonna go back several steps and totally repaint the legs (especially since I had several other kits that needed finishing touches before I hit the road to Louisville). I just evened it out and I call it a "futuristic, texture printed fashion hose", (yeah, that's the ticket  )
P.S. - Saturn Studio is what I got off of Buc's site. Richard, (Monomaster2) may be able to chime in on this info.

Charles, we created a whole new sub-category under Science Fiction in the Gallery "Blade Runner" in anticipation of your next masterpiece.
