Aurora Phantom and Hunchback re-builds!

#1 Post by Tim Casey »

Chugging along through all thirteen original Aurora kits. Here's the Phantom and the Hunchback, old and new versions. I had to go back to linking the photos from my website because today the "postimages" app doesn't seem to be working. If you can't see the pictures, you can see them along with others here:

And my old circa 2000 Phantom:

I was surprised to find out that the newer Phantom from Atlantis has a better parts fit than the original Aurora. I had an original that was never assembled that I got from eBay or somewhere. I started fitting the pieces together and noticed how much of a hassle it was going to be. Then I found that the cravat was missing, so I needed to get a new Phantom kit. Luckily the Atlantis glow version is currently available. When I started working on it, I noticed that the parts fit much, much better than the original. I guess things do improve over time!

And the old version, originally glued together in 1964 (!) but re-painted circa 2000:

The hair thing was my attempt at improving the model. The hair has since been removed, since my tastes have improved over the decades.

I'll be splitting up my Aurora page soon because it's getting a bit unwieldy.

Enjoy! And go build a model!

Your 2023 build-ups look fantastic, especially the skin tones!

I stay away from using apps quote unquote as much as possible. I do all my photo posting on my computer, by the old block copy and paste method.

As everyone else has mentioned, having perused the photos on your website, the improvements are easily noticeable. And I bet it was fun going down memory lane.

🤩👍😁

Thanks so much - that's terribly nice of you to say!

This IS a fun trip down memory lane. It's weird, though, that I'd remember the fit problems on a model that I built 55 years ago. I guess those problems really ticked me off at the time!
