Rest in peace "Night-Owl" RICK EVANS

#1 Post by Todd P. »

Rick was a longtime dedicated member of our hobby community, busy as both a painter and producer. Among other things, he produced a series of popular Aurora replacement bases. He hadn't been active at the Clubhouse since 2018 but you'd see him on Facebook posting reactions.

He died this morning. Only 58 years old according to his profile. He was reportedly in a bad traffic accident a couple of weeks ago but his sister reported that melanoma was the bigger problem.

I met Rick in person at two WonderFests. Big guy, he was hard to overlook.

I wasn't sure of the name or forum name, but sure as heck remember that avatar! Rick was always a pleasant & friendly member here.

Sorry to hear he has passed. My sympathies to all his friends & family.

Thank you Todd for letting us know.

Another heart felt loss to our community. RIP Rick, you will be missed. If anyone would like to review Rick's work, I complied his photos in the Gallery "In Memoriam" section here: https://theclubhouse1.net/piwigo/index. ... tegory/112

Rick was there from the beginning of the Clubhouse and the very beginning of the old Polar Lights BB. I've known him since the late 90's and can honestly say I've never heard him say a bad word about another soul. He was a gentle giant and a very supportive man. He was always encouraging others in the hobby and loved to talk about all things sci-fi and model related. He was a huge supporter of this hobby and I always enjoyed touching base with him on a regular basis. I was aware of some of his health issues but he seemed to be in great shape last year at Wonderfest. We were lucky to have dinner with him one evening and he never mentioned his health issues. I assumed he was doing fine. His sister had been in contact with me the last few days filling in details. How tragic and unexpected. He was a great sounding board for ideas and was always ready with helpful suggestions and advice. His parting leaves a huge hole in this hobby family and I will miss him. Godspeed Rick.

I did not know Rick, but recognize his face (probably from old WF photos posted on here). A sad loss of another member of The Hobby at a much-too-young age. Rest in Peace.

Any link to his CH profile? (Curious to see that avatar that Spike mentioned above) ...

I am so sorry to hear this news. I first found out about his condition yesterday. I knew the outlook wasn't good at all, but still held out a sliver of hope that he would pull through.

He will be sorely missed. He was big, he was loud, and he could talk your ear off if you gave him the opportunity. But he was also extremely nice, friendly, and smart. He was also a big supporter and cheerleader for this hobby. I spent many an hour in the hallways and lobby at WF talking with Rick. He was one of the few I remembered from my first trip to WF, and I always kept an eye out for him at every show. Loved to hear what he was up to, and what he was working on. It's going to be so different not seeing him at the show this year.

I am also lucky to own decent amount of his bases and such. As a matter of fact I even tagged him in the photos of the completed ones I just finished last month. I was wondering why he never commented, and now I know. :(

Don't think I knew him, but it's always sad when another "resin head" departs for the next level of existence.

It's a certainty that almost every member of The Clubhouse has a Night-Owl item on their model shelves or in their stashes. Rick's passing is a great loss not only to friends and family, but to everyone whose models were improved by Rick's work. Happy landings, Night-Owl! :(

I was lucky enough to meet and speak with Rick several times at Wonderfest. He was always very friendly, kind and supportive.
I will miss seeing him at Wonderfest this year. My sincere condolences to his family,

I can remember discussions with Rick from as far back as 1999 when I first attended WonderFest. He was a fixture at the show, and always had some interesting nugget to share due to his encyclopedic mind. It will be weird not seeing him at future shows. Thanks to all his kind dedication to the hobby, and my sincerest condolences to his family on their loss.
