Re: Sakai Godzilla 62 Preproduction Still Resin kit
Great buildup Jon! As I said elsewhere, it's curious that this kit bears absolutely no resemblance to the Kingoji 1962 Godzilla suit.
Looks like a complete reimagining of the scene, with something closer to the original 1954 Big G. as the star.

Interesting choice of lava like lighting. Is this what the client wanted, or was it your idea to replace the blue ice with the lava glow?

Re: Sakai Godzilla 62 Preproduction Still Resin kit
Thanks Vlad, I was speculating that this was using a puppet for the preproduction still and that the design for the 62 was still in the works. It has teeth a bit like the 55, but lacks ears like the 62. The 62 was the next movie after 55 which ended in Godzilla being buried in ice, so he would be emerging here.bucketfoot-al wrote: ↑May 4th, 2024, 7:55 pm Great buildup Jon! It was the client's call, I agreed, thinking it would depict quick melting ice. There were other references we saw that had mostly amber and yellow and even brown, which made little sense to me, so we went with a burning Godzilla look. Here is a photo of the kit from and 80's magazine:bucketfoot-al wrote: ↑May 4th, 2024, 7:56 pm Interesting choice of lava like lighting. I think that looks great.
It also seems like a very fun kit. So much glowing orange.
I'll bet the client loves it!

I think you hit the nail on the head with the puppet theory Jon! Now that you mention it, it does look exactly like the Kingoji puppet fighting with the King Kong puppet in the animated sequence when Godzilla jumps up and kicks Kong!Jon LeGrand wrote: ↑May 5th, 2024, 12:49 am
