Solarwind's Carina

#1 Post by Paul Helfrich »

I'm a relative newcomer to resin kit figure modeling (completed my first such kit in December 2006). I've got a long way to go, but I'm learning a lot hanging out on this forum!

This is probably my best work so far - Carina, a 1/12 Mike Cusanelli sculpt from Solarwind. Probably the most buxom Solarwind kit, for those of you keeping score at home... :D

Hope you enjoy the pix...eventually I'll replace my old camera and will be able to take the next step on photography as well.

Thanks, I'm really pleased with how she turned out - given that I had the usual spectacular mishaps while building up - inadvertent fingerprints, arms falling off, etc. :?

Really nice paint-up! I really like the way her face turned out, very pretty. Nice lips, expressive eyes, plus the hair is very nicely done.

Good work - I know what a challenge it is painting the hairline around the face of one of Mike's masterpieces. Did you hand paoint the hair or use your airbrush?

Thanks guys! Peter, coming from you, that means a lot - I really admire your work!

On the hair - I considered airbrushing it, at least a base coat, but it was just too tricky to mask. So I handpainted black as a base coat and then overlaid that with a thin reddish mix to get an overall dark red hair color.

Thanks guys!

Yes, the jewelry is one of the things I really like about Mike's scuplts. In addition to their other obvious attributes, he always includes some kind of elaborate necklace or other bling-bling on his girls that provides an opportunity for some detail work.

Really nice job on this one Paul!

1/12 faces are not easy to do, especially the eyes, but you did a superb job here...I guess all that practice on the gaming figures has been good training :)

Once again ..nice paintup. :thumb2:

Thanks Steve! You are absolutely right, I did Carina after finishing a 54 mm figure and I'm currently struggling with some 28 mm figures. It is amazing how big 1/12 seems after those.... :o

I just need a new camera - I'm using an old fixed focus camera that is pretty much point and shoot, no macros, etc.

It's hard because I'd rather spend the money on models! But evenutally I'll make the investment.
