Excellent and superbly photographed.

Yah, I got lucky with the pictures.
Thank you for the wonderfully kind comments, everyone! I especially appreciate Sherrin's thoughtful words - she always, without fail, has a kind word for everyone.
I have a couple more I'm working on (and have to finish before Christmas, eek!) so I'll add a couple more to this thread in a few days.

Thanks FilMkr, I really appreciate you sharing that info.! Now to try and figure out how to take this info and hope I can do 1/10 as good a job!!!FilmMkr wrote:I used primarily ComArt and GK transparents, watercolors, and several different inks, both diluted and full strength. The veins on The Spell and Orlock were done with ComArt transparents and Prismacolor pencils.Warped Speed wrote:May I ask what type paints you used?
Yes. I used transparent violet and ultramarine blue, and then mixed a little Pearl X into some Future and slowly built up six or seven coats with a Grex airbrush with a large nozzle and needle. I used the same technique on the base, but I used Tamiya gloss black lacquer that I decanted and sprayed through an Iwata HP-C for the base coat, followed by six coats of Future and Pearl X. It looks really sweet in person - deep and sparkly! And one last question, did you paint the ball?
Like some else said "you make it look easy", I doubt it was, or from my perspective it doesn't!
It's really hard to stop studying these because there are so many levels to marvel at.
Thanks much,
Carl-
Re: Gifts for Family and Friends
Just finished this one very early Christmas morning for my daughter in law, who is a nurse by day and a bonafide Texas surf rat on the weekends.
Built from a 1964 Hawk kit that really showed its age. The board is an exact replica of Brittany's, and she's wearing her favorite purple bikini. Painted her hair to match Brit's, and scratchbuilt the flip flops out of sheet styrene and rubber tubing to match hers also.
Painted with Andrea acrylics except for the board. I went back to my model car roots and broke out the lacquers. I used a custom-mixed two part urethane automotive base coat/clear coat. Painted the main board first, then masked the center section and painted the edges using a darker variant. The stringer is a wood-color mix that I concocted in the garage. Everything was clear coated with two part urethane clear coat with pearl powder, shot through a big mouth Grex airbrush.
