Tamiya Dinos

#1 Post by eradicator178 »

Everyone on this board knows that Tamiya put out some really cool dino dioramas. But what was the deal with those first three dinos (the t-rex, stegosaurus and triceratops) that they produced? Those were really goofy and terrible looking. Does anyone know the history of these dino models? What possessed Tamiya to make them?

they go way, way back, early to mid 70's iirc. Back then, that was the school of thought. Of course, in the mid to late 80's, things changed. Tamiya, rightly so, left them alone, figuring enough money and time was sunk into them. The box art, while still wrong, is the best part about them.

As a side note, a few years ago, Tamiya America ran a poll to see what models you wished they would produce. All manner of tanks, ships and planes were suggested. Me? I asked for a 35th scale Spinosaur in their Diorama range (which was also a long dead range at that point. I won a 1/12th scale Formula 1 car kit... Still no spino.....
