These days, I still go with USPS for smaller packages because it's more cost-efficient, and the nearest post office is less than five miles away. I live in the sticks, so the nearest shipping drop for FedEx and UPS is about 24 miles round trip. I try to strategize it so that I have UPS packages ready for the driver to accept when he makes a delivery, thus avoiding home pickup charges or an inconvenient drive. USPS won't pick up at my house.

However, I might reconsider using USPS even that much if my bad luck continues. Truly, at least half a dozen packages lost or severely delayed in the last six months. Probably 10. I should have started logging it the first time it happened. This is both coming and going. An item I bought off eBay in August reached my mailbox -- in great shape, go figure -- in December. I confirmed with a local postal worker that an exceptional number of customers in my area are complaining about lost materials.

UPS is my choice for larger boxes. I have better luck and the price is, honestly, bafflingly less. I have a business account so I save a ton.

If I'm sending something outside the United States, it goes to the U.S. Postal Service. It's still risky, but I know my customers outside the U.S. hate UPS and FedEx.

I am blessed with great UPS and USPS deliveries. Actually, FEDEX Express is not too bad. That worthless FEDEX Ground though is the worst. They are the ones that drop my stuff on the porch at the end of the road. My house sits 1/4 mile off the main road and I have the blue and white reflective signs up for direction. At the end of the road is one that says the address and has an arrow. Half way to my house is another with the address and arrow. FEDEX Ground is just lazy.

Well, it happened again. The USPS just delivered this package from a client. The box is totally ripped open exposing the model box inside. It’s Moebius’ GRIM REAPER, so the actual kit should be okay.

Yikes Brian! And I was so concerned about delayed packages from the USPS. I hope the contents were ok. In cases like this you need to be concerned with not only damage but the item actually coming out of the box.

This is not the worst that has arrived at my house. Luckily, nothing has ever fallen out of the package, but sometimes i wonder why it didn’t. By the way, the item itself was okay.

Have done that to no avail. If they watto get you, they’ll get you. Also, I NEVER write FRAGILE or DO NOT BEND on packages because u think the P.O. takes that as a challenge. I’ve had buyers from across the country to tell me the same thing.

The problem isn't kicking or throwing. The problem is stacking. All of these packages come down conveyor belts and are loaded into cans (by air) or trucks. Loading is the manual process and its's first come first served, despite the weight. That 40lb circular saw your neighbor got with free shipping is going on top of your model. 99% of the damage is caused long before your carrier/courier gets his hands on it. As "ship to home" becomes the norm, as opposed to people actually going to the store for their stuff, the problem will only increase. Also, as shippers try to conserve costs to keep up with the "free shipping" craze, they are increasing how much stuff they can cram in.
