Studio scale-saucer from 1970's 'UFO'

#1 Post by ManInJapan »

Hi everyone,

As a complete newbie to the forum who hasn't modelled anything (until starting a figure very recently) for over ten years, I thought I had better bring an old piece of mine to the table.

It is a studio-scale saucer from the Gerry Anderson TV series 'UFO'. It was made by a one man UK manufacturer (whose name eludes me) and has a resin base, core and inner dome, vacuum formed, clear upper/lower domes and laser cut, plastic vanes and 'paddles'.
I completed it using Tamiya and Mr. Hobby acrylic spray paints, Hasegawa clear green film and chrome Bare-Metal Foil for all the reflective surfaces.

I then constructed a forest base with real, cut branches and installed a couple of green LEDs to represent the night time scenes which scared the hell out of me as a kid (especially as I lived a stone's throw from Pinewood Studios and Black Park, where all the exteriors for UFO and the Hammer Films were shot).

Below are construction shots and the finished saucer.
Hope you like it. 👍

Simon

PS: There are too many photos for one post so please bear with me!

:thumb2: I remember this series well, particularly the ladies in it!, 👀😁

I don't remember if it was ever determined what the aliens wanted with the earth, or if there was any direct communication with them. As far as I remember they're always mysterious, though of course human-like.

Beautiful build up, now if it would only spin! 😅

Great job! :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2:

Thanks again Al.

Well, the aliens were kidnapping people for organ harvesting! Hearts, livers, lungs and eyes were all fair game.
Beyond that, they were just very scary green faced boogey men.

Spin? SPIN? You're having a laugh my friend! 😄

But, just for you, here are some of the beautiful ladies of SHADO ...... enjoy!
