Kitbash; Batman Dragon 2024-03-25

#1 Post by barad_dur »

As I noted in my model club tv episode 86 interview, I often search for broken or defective statues on ebay for use in my kitbashing.

I was lucky enough to find this HUGE Batman vs Joker Dragon statue that was being sold because 1 of the 2 boxes was lost by UPS.
So it is missing the right hand, a couple alternate hands, the base, and the dragon’s mane.

I have always liked this statue but did not buy it before as it is quite expensive and I do not collect super hero kits.

However, I went ahead and bought this one since the Batman has a great medieval vibe (using one of the alternate heads), the dragon head is wicked cool, and I got it for an amazing price because it is incomplete.

The detail on the Batman figure is FANTASTIC! And the paint job is amazing as well.

I plan to:
sculpt or find a new right hand from another kit,
create a base , which has to be huge and very sturdy to support Batman and Dragon as they both weigh a ton,
fill in missing dragon mane (I will most likely use spikes versus the original joker-hair-like design),
change that garish joker color scheme on the dragon
change the end of the dragons tail
maybe make some changes to the dragon body; add some arms or possibly even wings?!

Not sure exactly how to pose these figures.
I may just use top half of dragon and have it emerging from a crevice and attacking the Batman with his lower left leg hid by rocks versus wrapped inside coils from the dragon as in original design?
maybe have lower left leg being grabbed (hidden) by an added dragon arm/claw.
One thing for sure is that I will not try sculpting a new lower left leg/boot as I could never match the incredible detail of the Batman armor.

Hah, thanks !

It will be a while until I start working this one as I first need to finish my kits for Wonderfest.

An utterly INSANE concept kit - what a "Bashing Platform" to work with!!!! (Pretty soon you'll be grafting arms and legs onto that Dragon if you're not careful ... not that I want to give you any ideas ...  ).

As I am going to be taking a little hiatus from modeling after my just-finished "Kong Up Top 3.0" (there are some other personal things I have neglected during its build up) , I can't wait to see how this one progresses - a new concept, and a story with two characters ought to get your creative juices going as you wrassle with it!!! I have confidence you will yet surprise us!!! :drool2:
